Right now this is very preliminary, as you can tell. Basically, if you can't understand from this crude sketch, the dinosaur is trying to hit the asteroid with a bat. I just wanted to get a sketch down before the weekend.

The idea is nice! You definitely should continue this, maybe make the dinosaur a bit fat with a simpler background

i think you only need one meteor, i got the idea that this was how the dinosaurs' decided to combat the meteorite onslaught right at the beginning, in a few moments time that particular t-rex will realise the plan is hopelessly inadequate and by then it'll be too late to send nukes up to greet the magic flying rocks

The content is perfect as is. I got the impression that this guy was their last hope and struck out. Like the grand finale of a sports montage.

The only thing I would change would be to make it a bit more sketchy - like it was drawn with a ballpoint. Blue on white is great for this reason.

Either that or go all out vector illustration in a range of khakis.

well i'm going to change the color of the mountains in the bg, add shading, change color of bat, etc. I was just wondering what people think about the oranges, reds, and blacks. or should i go in another direction with this?

i think as far as having a funny cartoon concept you are dead spot on for this place.



the red is going to be dark ya know......the design will have to combat that....not a problem though....i always find that these things float around on dark color shirts if not done right.. when you add color to that mountain it will change how it sits big time.

i think these colours can work, but the characters will need a reet poshe colouring job to really jump out, lots of highlights thrown on things off the meteor and a big shadow from the dinosaur for starters.



i think i might be inclined to pick green for the shirt, like the scenery and pick out bits of orange/ red where things are lit up by the meteor

I was thinking around the blue area would be better. I find the orange and maroon masks the character, like it doesn't jump out at you as much.

I think the dinosaur should be in more of a hitting stance. I'm thinking of Soriano on the Cubs. He has his front leg up a little, getting ready. I think the bat should be off his shoulder more. i'd make the shirt a warmer color, like red or orange. i think it'll match the color scheme of the prehistoric ages. idk, everytime i saw it depicted in cartoons, it'd be around that side of the color palette. and some shadowing and turf would make it look good too.

Actually, I like the clouds, it's more of a stylistic choice. The shadows look great, too. One thing I'd suggest working on is tweaking the meteor, roughen the edges of it and if you have an extra tone, put highlights in the fire. It doesn't look bad, I just think a bit of touch up there would be awesome.

Actually, I'm not sure if making it a tree is the best solution...maybe changing it into a classic caveman style club would work better.

Good idea. I think you should work on the pose of the dinosaur. Right now the pose is to relaxed, it doesn't look like he's getting ready to hit the meteor, it looks like he's just standing around with a bat. Maybe lift his right shoulder a little, space out his feet more. And I also think you should either lose the thin outline or make it thicker.

okay i remade the asteroid, added detail to the fire, detail to the bat, and removed black out lines of the palm trees. one problem, it has 9 colors. what color do you think can be removed? i'm thinking white. any other feedback is welcomed.

Looks good, only suggestion i can make is to vary your outline widths a little. If you look at fatheed's and especially glennz's designs you will see that they are masters of it.

id say get rid of black and white

i was looking at the dino's left hand, after a while it becomes funny, you don't see its left arm.

change the black for his left leg, and the dino's in the back to a dark green and a dark red.

It's cool to see the evolution of the design! T-rex's leg is missing some muscle I think. it just looks a little whimpy. Of course, this is apparently the dinosaur that effed it up for all the other ones, so maybe a puny leg is in the cards haha. I really like the shirt, and that's my only critique on it ^_^

I feel like it might need one more little cloud on the left. Otherwise I'd say good to go!

I agree with the needing to ground his foot a bit more. The feet on the trex is the one that seems to be floating a little, the right more than the left. All that would be needed is just a bit more to the shadow in that area right up underneath the feet :)

haha, funny!! have you tried with the dino closer? A bit bigger and down. It's almost alligned with the palm, and that way it would outstand more and make the composition more dynamic, creating a triangle with the shadows.

The shadows are good...the outlines are fine if you have them on the mountain as well. If there is no outline on the mountain, the clouds and flame should be sans outline.

@ lukebouris, so you are saying that if the mountain has an outline then the outlines are fine, but if it doesn't i should remove the outlines of the clouds and fire? sounds fair too me.

The clouds are taking away from the meteor because of the strong black outline. Maybe just leave it on the meteor rock, but not the flames. Then maybe make the tail of the flame stream even further out.

I like the outlines around the clods and the flames removed. The rest is coming out awesome.

Hmm i think the background dinos might blend in better if you use that darker green that is on T's nose. the light green brings 'em forward too much in my opinion. I still really like the orange shirt...really gives the feeling of the piece :)

@wisl i have the t-rex proportioned correctly. 1 body length = about 4 head lengths. i'll agrre with you though that maybe the other dinos might need details.

the direction of the shadows don´t fit for me. if they´re effected by the astroid they need to stand kind of diffrent. the scribble of the shadow dosen´t match to the rest of the picture, in v13 it was better. trying to make the shadows more blury could help

Lets see, i went back to old shadows but lightened them, added an extra tree on the left side, and added some detail to the dino silhouettes. is it perfect yet? lol!

I don`t really like the details on the dinos in the back, I think they should be darker green and without details. The comet should also be more round, and the clouds smaller. And then, its perfect in my opinion :-)

ok, to be more specific about the clouds, I feel that the one on the left should be not so narrow to the right side, but more like the other cloud without being the same one. And, as I said before a bit narrower and smaller.

I think there is to many trees now, three or four evenly dirstibuted should do it.

Ok, just one more thing to complain about and I`ll stop! The dino furthest in the back looks to much like its mirrored from the one in front of it. Just change the tail and neck. Or get rid of it, you don`t really need it.

I like these colors and the details of the batting dino are awesome, the background dino's should just be silhouettes or only dark green though, great work here. and for a laugh (i hope) check out my slogans and support me to by scoring them.

I've liked this idea from the start. I'm into tees that make me and people looking at my shirt smile.



I don't think you need any detail in the other dinosaurs, I think taking out the detail of the background palms, so they are consistent from a perceptual view point, will solve your detail/no detail debate. Also, the other dinos are darker than T-Rex. Try fading them out a bit along with the background palms to force a foreground and background differentiation.



As for the clouds (atmosphere), this is probably one of those gaseous meteor moments, so stressed clouds and less solid background palms/dinos might add a bit to the narrative and put more emphasis on the T-Rex at bat.



Last suggestion is to have T-Rex's left leg have no outline against the belly and right leg. It should come out from behind the right leg rather than have its own shape.



Also, you might just call it "Strike Out" when you submit. Meteors strike and dinos were out. =]

I like how the trees look in this version, but I still prefer v8 overall (and the details on the dino of v8) . I think that's prolly cause I am not a fan of orange backgrounds.

Ilike it, v11 but with the flame brighter as in v12. I like the irregular lines around the clouds.

I think a few rocks here and there will really help it out, and it'd be really neat if you could somehow have the meteor streaking through the clouds (on it's way to its current position).

again, this is so clever!

i do think adding the orange to the front edge of the asteroid worked nicely.

as well as the rocks. they kinda filled up some of that empty space

Well, there's a few nitpicking things:



- The shadow on the back of the Tyrannosaurus is a bit thick. Maybe a thinner, slightly lighter shade.

- The meteor's inner flame should slightly curve when they're touching the meteor, not just stick out straight from behind. Picture a circle with a slightly bigger circle.

- Straighten (it's hanging to the right a bit) and lower (maybe by a few pixels) the cloud on the left.

- Make the shadows of the smaller trees point to the left a little more.



I dunno, these are all TINY little details, but they stand out to me when I give a good look through of the design. But, will any of that really stand out when printed? Probably not. So, really, I'd say print it. Good luck!

I think moving the meteor a bit to the left would do it. This way the dino, the big palm and the meteor would form more of a circular pattern keeping the eye orbiting (sorry for the pun) around the design. It looks great as it is but it might be worth a try to see if it doesn't bother you as much. Cheers!

er.... i know i'm coming in a little late in the game, but i think the pose on the at-bat dino is kind of stiff... can you show more tension, maybe in the legs?

looking at it longer, makes me think that the dinos in the back maybe shouldn't be this dark green, but darker red. the most left one in particular. it's a bit distracting i think.

I do not see very well the details of the palm that is closer to the dinosaur, but is poorly drawn the line ... would prefer to just outside the silhouette ....

The line/detail of the palm is great in V16 where you show a close up. You can't see it in V19, so you don't need to change it as far as I'm concerned. As for the dark green used in the background dinos and trees, maybe a shade lighter or maybe the color you used to outline the rocks would be good for the dinos and keep the palms green.



There's some great tee photos with and without models generously put up by some threadless artists here if you want to get away from the basic tee template.

I think that the thick like on the palm is alittle much. i'll tweak that and the silhouette colors.

Also, you had 25 submit votes on V17, that's as many as I have seen. Plus you have over 75 submit votes as your design has evolved. Don't get too crazy about the nit picking, this is a great idea, beautifully executed. Maybe try a different shading of the background elements if you must but just make your own call on those or you're going to drive your self nuts. 25 submits is saying submit, damn it! Cheers and a definite $5 from me when it gets into scoring.

hrmmm... may be a bit dark....how about trying them in an orange color...since you have the mountains and such in a orange silhouette, it might help to treat all silhouettes in a similar manner/like shades and such.

I personally don`t like the shade of brown on the dinos in the background. But no big deal, I guess I like them a tad bit more than the green in v17. But thats me, make the last decitions yourself and SUBMIT ALREADY! :-)

excellent concept! My only comment would be to correct the shadow of the tree on the right and the rocks

By that I mean, use the Meteor as your lightsource to add dramatic lighting, Really push the shadows to extreme limits. The T-rex shadow should be stretched and faded out, the tree on the right - its shadow should bend to the right or straight on rather than left



but honestly thats nitpicking so im'a still say sub it

I like how you can tell that T.Rex is evoking a look of wonderment and dumbfoundedness, yet you don't need to see his face either. Good choice of color considering the aftermath of heat and destruction. Nice evolution here as well.
