david I will put a shield in there in the next version, thanks! I want to keep the color palette pretty muted for this one and only highlight the important bits to make it as easy to read on the shirt as possible. Too many colors will make it muddled and confusing I think. . .
and HandThought I like that suggestion too! I will try it out later and see what others think :)

This idea is already awesome. I could see some light blues going well on here, maybe his armor? This might take it further than you want to but what about a horse, his trusty steed? Just an idea :)

I'd say I made them pretty accurate in relation to my human figures ;)

I think the shield is just a little too big.

i think it looked better without the shield actually. I like the idea of the cracks in the window, it makes for more of a reason for why he is being arrested/ or escorted out of the zoo.

haha maybe make a short railing in front of the window, or one of those velvet rope thingies that the knight has cut up.

I liked V1's simpler approach to the rocks and the sign and dragons. But ndstille has a point, with the railing or roping. I think that'd be a great addition.

Another suggestion, parent with kid should be protecting kid a little bit. Not sure of guy at glass...bit distracting. I like the shield, but you could also try a metal boot perhaps.

lose the shield or have the knight still carry it. it confuses the joke a bit. the sword should be more central in the composition maybe a bit lower than where the shield is now and it should point to the cracks in the glass where he attacked. hilarious idea... this WILL be awesome. Also, I would like to feel the glass more between the people and the dragons. maybe a slightly darker tone on the rocks outside on both sides will do the trick.

Stage 3: Nearing completion

I'm not sure if I should go back and make the rocks way simpler and more lineart based like in version 1 or if you guys like them like this.
Also, I tried the rope bar in front of the glass but it got in the way too much of the dragons' heads and I think the crack in the glass is enough by itself to hint that he did some damage. Lemme know what you think, thanks!

I think the rocks are good as they are.
And the cracks in the glass look great.

What I can't decide is if I like the people and shadows and the sword and the shield better in this version or in version 2. I really liked the simple stuff in version 2, but this looks great as well.

But yeah, if this thing gets printed it's a must buy.

Honestly, while I do like the soft color palette, I feel like it's missing a bit of pop. Like it blends in to the shirt almost too much. I really think it could benefit from some white. But that's just me..

I like the faceless security guards. The rocks and stuff look great, I think i agree with david about the blending into the shirt...maybe just brighten up the dragon green a bit, or something...i dunno.

Anyways, great illustration!

davidfromdallas, I'm not opposed to adding white but unless somebody has a specific place to suggest to add it where it would work well I'd prefer to work with less colors. On this version I popped the red a bit more and also made the dragons green, and although it may look better to some people I know a lot of other people will also not like this because actual komodo dragons are a dark gray/brown. I know I can't please everyone but I would certainly prefer to please as many people as possible, so let me know if you like this better please!

To be honest, I prefer the dark gray/brown color. A bit more realistic - this just seems a bit much. And thanks for the reply - I completely understand about keeping your colors low. Still feel like some white would help the image. I'd try their tshirts and the ice cream scoop on the ground. Maybe even the sign, too?

All in all, this is one hell of a sub and I can't wait to $5 the hell out of it when it's done. Great work, man!

yeah I think adding some white could definitely improve the design. it doesn't have to be a true white though, 'cos ya if you put bright white it might be distracting but a cream might be nice.

hahaha... this is very funny... It's incredible how you manage to tell the whole story in a few drawings!!!!
There is a difference in style and detail between the dragons and people but I think it doesn't bother me...
I'd like to see it placed on a tee to see how the illustration fits in the space to make sure the cops and the kningt are at the correct distance from the action.

eh...white...brings things to the foreground...I would either get rid of all white (v4), or just keep the guards/knight parts white. But sub what makes YOU happy
