In order to continue with my latest affection for silly jokes with animal names I had this idea.

Yeah... sorry, you are right. I'm not really used to the baseball fan appearel, so I'm learning while doing this... Do you think that something else is needed? I mean, more accesories, something in the background? Maybe he is tying to catch a ball?

I think the bat with just the baseball hat does the trick, the foam hand is awesome tho, cant wait to see your execution on it, maybe some sort of background, like some clouds, or a baseball field in the back.

Now that I have finished with the Ram, I can spend some time with this little guy.

I've cleaned up and inked the sketch, I'll start adding some detail and then the color process... I'm thinking on a different technique for this one, hopfuly in a few days I'll have something to show you and collect some opinions.

haha...this is lookin good...maybe a baseball team logo on the cap would be nice...lookin forward to the more detailed update.

I almost like the first one as a sketch better, something about it that just appealed to me whereas this one feels cheaper somehow.

yeah, it's missing a lot of details... don't worry, hopefuly it will look better in the next V, this is just a necessary step.

I have stylized the drawing a little, correcting the cap and the legs... I have also removed the snout, what I think makes this guy to look cuter.

I'm attempting to use some mixed media with this one... what do you think?

I'm still not sure about the rest of the color pallette, I'm sure about navy for the tee, but I'm specially not sure about the assets colors... I don't know if I should make up a team with it's own colors or what... suggestions needed.



I know the bat is too flat and mixed with the background, but I'll be working on highlights and shadows to make it popup.

Ram Memory

i like the collage style that you have going on. The lights on the far right that are going under his wing seems to keep drawing my eye away from the subject. Most likely this will resolve itself, once the bat gets closer to completion.

good bat illu, but I dont see the need for two seperate styles and I think the background choice doesn't add anything to the design and sort of confuses the atmosphere.

The bat is quite funny but you can leave out the background. Instead of a background, add a bunch of other bats maybe.

Looks good. I'd say lose the background, though. And I think the nose would look great if added back into the design.

Finished the wings texturing... I'm thinking on what to do with the back.

If you want to add anything: maybe a high foul ball coming right at the bat that he doesn't see. I think background would be superfluous.

All that wonderful detail on the wings and the hat and the hand. Please put some into the bat's face. It wouldn't need much, a nose, a bit of detail on the teeth and lips.



This is so almost ready. Don't do too much more.

Not done yet, but closer I think.

I have added a moon and some clouds in the background to help the composition. Added som transparency effect to the wings soy you can see some of the moonlight through them. I still need to finish some of the bat face datails, but I think I'm going to keep it simple because I like it being a cartoony character with all those realistic textures on him.



Next time I'll show the illo larger, I wanted to know how you feel about the placement.

Maybe put the design down a couple inches. The finger is right on the neck in this position.

I agree, maybe lower it just a slight bit. I really think the moon adds alot to it, and really goes nicely with the bat. Much more affective that the lights that you had before. Nice job, and keep it up! :)

Oh yes! Thats great, Santo! This has really progressed alot in a short time. I do sort of miss the feeling that theres a stadium, maybe there could be a small one far down on the shirt, so his flying over it. But it`s great as it is too.

mreisel, my first idea was a basball glove.. the problem is that it is supposed to fit in fingers, and bats fingers are too small for that... then I decided to try to make him look more like a fan and that's why I sketched it with the foam finger.



I tryed other stuff like stars, stadium, lights, etc. but it seems to get overloaded. With all the textures I used it gets easyly overloaded.



I'm kinda happy... so if nothing too big appear that I can't avoid to change add, I'll be putting the presentation together tomorrow to submit it.



And Brightwood... let's hope there is no conspiracy :P

Good idea, well made.

This looks nice. I really like the textures but the mouth and teeth stand out too much. They look flat compared to everything else. Maybe you can make the black a really dark blue to soften it up and the teeth a bit more gray?

With all that colour variation I don't reckon you need the black lines any more - let the colour define the shapes and this would kick ass.

wow! all that texture and such is so cool! i enjoyed it more with the baseball stadium lighting in the background because it was more contextual.

About face details an lines, I kept them because I wanted it to look cartoony even after using all those textures, It gives the silly pun a cute twist... and I wanted it to make it look different than my previous sub. It's kind of similar joke and I wanted it to be visually different.



I tryed removing the stroke, and even tryed a lighter color there... but it didn't work.



I liked the idea of using stadium lights, but I wanted some mixed media here and I couldn't find the perfect picture for the background, that's why I decided to go with the moon... it's classic and makes the bat pop up a little.

Looks great, good luck! I don't have any doubt that this one is going to do great! :) It looks so great how everything came together in the end!



Btw...is it hard to make the flash presentation? I just got my "holy ark" up for vote, but my preview doesn't look as sharp as the flash presentations do, and if not too difficult I'd like to make one for my next entry:) Thanks, and sorry for the off topicness
