Definitely weird and random, but I love it! The design is very clear in what you're trying to portray, and I can't help but get a kick out of the shadows.



You might want to adjust the light in the back (or just remove it). It throws the shadows off, and it looks like it's growing out of that guys head.

Thanks Dominique. Yeah- I kind of think the light is distracting as well but kept it because it was part of my original pencil sketch and I tend to stick with original concepts, (maybe at my own peril)-

I will play around with either the position of the lamp- maybe in the middle? or try removing it-

i would def say remove it. kind of distracts from the rest of the picture, and not to mention the shadows are in the wrong spot if the light is behind them...

I gotcha- the spectre of what should be are not supposed to be shadows but I see how they can be interpreted as such - so i am going to remove the light-



wonder if I should have shadows under the thug's bodies at all???

i really like that kitty's shadow is kicking butt. maybe give him more of a flying kick type of shadow? like that one LOL cat that is kicking the dog in the face.... obviously a kick that kicks butt. cute idea :)

It's wierd that the shadows between the guys are going in opposite directions.

they are supposed to be falling back- and I wanted the design to have some symmetry

no i mean the ones inbetween the actual guys on the ground

the guy's shadows elongate from the lamp light source- (to me anyway)- although shadows are not my strong point-



I am thinking of canning the light itself and then casting the guys shadows like the light is coming from the front

I decided to take your good advise- so I got rid of the foreground shadows and moved the light source to the very front of the design

The grill seems out of perspective, and the gradient is... well just reexamine the grill altogether. Otherwise, very good.

the shadows are the best part! the main figures need some help i think. i think there needs to be less contrast. make the white less white (a light blue?) and the black less black (dark blue or brown?) at least thats my opinion...

btw, i think a dropped flashlight would work best out of the three ideas...

gonna try some tweaking today on the light-

I really like the concept, and the figures look alot better now that there is less contrast between the highlights and the rest of their clothes. As for the flashlight, I think it works better than the previous versions but I think a simple yellow beam rather than halftones would suit the style of the rest of the design more

the whole design was getting too dark- so I went back to PMS 293- also changed the cat silhouette- I actually like the original one but this one seems to tell the story better--

I like this design. I didn't pick up on what the shadows were really doing in the last one, this definitely points it out!! I like the lighter color as well and I also agree that adding some yellow reflection from the flashlight would be great. I think this is really close!!

It would be funnier if the guy was drawing his hand back to punch the kitty. In your version he is a microsecond away from making contact. There is no way the kitty is not going to get punched which is just plain cruel. I'm surprised no animal rights sympathizers have said anything about that yet. If his had was poised to start a punch, the shadows could be the prediction of the future.

Some yellow highlights in the kitty's eyes are essential.

Might want to alter the reversed shadow a little more than just a coat shadow. Make the fingers spread out or something. Otherwise weird enough to be cool!

move the grate closer to the guys so I could remove the flashlight- (too many things to distract your eyes)- and added subtle difference to the two guy shadows

this is so cruel! i bet there are going to be a lot of cat lovers who won't like this. Maybe instead of the punch, have the mugger on the left in a slightly less menacing pose. (it's hard to tell that he hasn't yet punched the cat).

I think the gradient in the drain takes too much attention from the main scene. i don't think you need it in order to justify the shadows.

I didnt notice the shadows at first, love the shadow where the cat is fighting back. im a cat lover and the fact that the shadow shows the cat winning is cleaver!

Bio bot gooo- I am a huge pet lover and very non violent- but I loved the cats in the hamburger that was on threadless as well- I think a lot of cat and pet lovers in general have the sense, (and sense of humor), to see that this is all in good fun-

I don;t reckon you need the drain at all. i think we all have a good idea of where shadows come from - we can infer where the light is coming from. the colour of the shirt worries me though. it's a touch too dark to be able to see the image clearly. have you tried the grays?

and that texture on the ground could totally go. it'd make the shadows clearer.

I am thinking about trying a purple shirt???

I think the whole thing looks great on the tshirt, I would be inclined to keep the street textures as it gives it quite a nice location for the fight to be set, I much prefer it than if the characters were just floating on the tee

not sure abut the choice of going to purple, if you do I'd also change the shades of the characters' clothing to blend in better with the purple

I was going crazy fixating on the ground, the light- all of it-

I tried multiple colors for the background but only the navy blue seemed to work-

I finally decided to lighten the ground a lot- pull the foreground in and the perspective forward to try to minimize the ground entirely and get back to the basic design-

not sure which is better-

I probably need to take a rest, get away from this design for awhile because all I see it that annoying ground!!!!

It IS weird, and it IS random. But that's better than normal and boring. :) My cat Bennie and I have a kind of exchange like this when I come home. I use my finger like a gun and do that "pew-pew" sound at him. He'll run up and start biting my shoes. Joon, his sister, just looks at us like we're both crazy.



I agree with the others that have suggested a darker shirt color; this might make it appear like an alleyway at night. I think having some brick walls going towards a perspective point away from the muggers might help the placement as well. :)

Kitty is accosted by two thugs but you should be careful who you pick on. Not only does Kitty engage in abdominal strengthening exercises, (he can take a stomach punch better than Houdini!), he is expert in 8 fighting styles.



The t-shirt is a three act play, the main scene, the shadow which portends of things to come and the back scene where Kitty impishly stares at the viewer with the slightest grin on his face knowing that he has just kicked ass!
