doubt it's a winner but that's not because I don't like it.

the text looks out of place...



looks like Mister Rogers' set... very cool you just need some hand puppets behind the train!

a note about the text and juxtuposition: the text style is unexpected. as is the phrase...anything that is done with an obvious cartoony font would be too expected. so the circus font.

ouu halftones, nice illo, not so sure about rigidity of the circle, and the blue character looks like a blue dong. It might get hassled a bit by the voters for its phallic qualities..

I love the halftones. I don't love the weird unicorn monster though

cute and cartoony isn't for everyone, but it's not bad for the style

i might make the central character less phallic though

I don't thinks it's a winner just because thereis so much awesome stuff around that is better, but still, it is really nice and there is nothing wrong with it, I'd give a 3 or 4

ok, but what needs work? the "dong" right. the circle.

lose the text...but the text is the point...

the size of the circle can be altered ok. it might look better.

as for cute...there's plenty of cute being printed and there's plenty that is printed that is "other".



i never know what the trends are and such, i think "people" (not individuals) are fickle.

I'd make the circle less perfect.

the thing about the text is, is that i like to wear nonsensical things, but the text seems to give it too much meaning- even though i don't know what that meaning is. and i think for people who don't like to wear nonsensical things, the text is too abstract for them to want to wear it. so i'd personally prefer it without text!



i wouldn't even mind having the text if it was more subtle or integrated into the design. right now it seems to compete with the imagery.

90% of people will say lose the text. I like the artwork.

The text would be better it it weren't so stark. What about shrinking it 10% and reversing it out, so it's the brown of the shirt?

i'm not sure what you mean by the point of it being the juxtaposition. juxtaposition in how the text changes the imagery? kind of like those cutesy shirts that say "i hate you"? (sorry to compare it to that- just trying to understand what you were going for)

both meaning and image... see i have tried the hand written styles and other styles and this one...this one is quite unexpected, yet it doesn't to me render the image destroyed.

there ar eplenty of artists out there that use fonts somewhat inappropriately and they are praised for it...when by all "rules" of design they are wrong in using the fonts in said way...



this font isn't expected but it looks a lot better than say, a tagger font, which is also unexpected.

also, i don't intend to reinvent the wheel or "clever" shirts at all. this type of concept is nothing new.

ah, okay. i agree that the font choice is unexpected, and i do enjoy that old western-styled type, but i don't know if that justifies it being there. but that's just my opinion. if you feel like it's an intregal part to your design- then stick with it.

i simply haven't found one that seems to work more with the image...if you have any suggestions on a specific font then point me at it...



as for drawing out the lettering, not my stong suit.

oh, i have no problem with the lettering. it's just the message that's throwing me off!

there really isn't one... it's a clash of ideas. they are both inappropriate for each other...absurd, ridiculous, funny to some...but to some it is off putting in that it "doesn't make sense".

robot, you spend so much time giving really good critiques and trying to lern from the critiques that others give you, I aplaud your attitude. I keep seing your design so I have a few more sugestions: I think it is not a winner because although it is nice as I said, ther eis so much awesome interestig stuff out there that I can't think this could win, then you never know, because stuff that I would have never think would win does, so who knows. However, being more concrete I think the halftones make the image somehow "dirty" , the rest is like really wee and with light plain colors. So my suggestion is that you use either the green or blue on the halftones. I like the message because itis so strong compared with such a naive image that it gives an interesting contrast. Other than that I don't know what else to say, sub it and see how it does.

ok so there is one of the shirt colours that is green...i suppose that is more preferred than brown as the brown may be seen as more dirty. so perhaps i use the green as the example rather than the brown? could it be as simple as that?

and they do and have printed plenty of designs with halftones...



they have the "avoid" halftones thing because not a lot of people understand how to use halftones (for shirts) affectively. at least that's my theory.

here's my two cents. Firstly, i love your style and your yeticorn. There's nothing sexual about this and you'd be pretty hard up for sex to think so. Second, I like it on brown because the colors seem washed out on the green. I guess it has to do with outlines and halftones? Third, the text is great. You are right that it has a lot to do with the message and design. I say keep it. Not every shirt has to have zero text. I did like the version with the text the same color as the shirt. Lastly, you should just post it because there are a lot of people who love your stuff. I want your "Lose the text" shirt so bad it kills. Good luck

how did you generate the half-tone robo-o? i'm just getting into illustrator and wanted a nice big halftone like that but couldn't figure it out.

It's quite whimsical and ironic. And counterintuitive. Those who like this will love it. To me, this is simply not a powerful enough concept. I think you have presented it very well.



I wouldn't give a crap about those who go about putting the same comments on everything [i.e. "Uh . . . lose the text?" or "Make it wrap around the back!"]. You never know what Threadless will print. :)
