I started working on the actual sketch I'm planning on inking since the idea is there now, et me know what you guys think so far, what to take out, put in, I thought the disco ball might be too much and might not work as well on the tshirt. let me know what you guys think so far.

umm it said error after I subbed v3 of the crituiqe and 90+ comments towards my critique were deleted! Threadless is there anyway to get them back????

man I was actually feeling the earlier sketch more than this newest update. the other one looked way more lively, like your other stuff.

I also think it looked perfect with the pick, eyewear, and necklace. it wasn't too much, and really made the elephant look really groovy.

I took some advice to make him look a bit more realistic, maybe try making him less realistic? or strecth him out a bit like the other versions?

I like him more when he's more 'cartoony'. but I tend to like your stuff like the midnight burglar better than the hungry hippo one, 'cause of the style difference.

I think you should go back a bit but not all cartoony. I like the way he looks at you, like he's the badest mofo at the disco :)

i like version 3 more than version 2

I think the reason why the 'cartoony' look seems a little better (too me that is) may be due in part to the curve of the back. In the first two drawings the elephant looks pudgy and kinda cute because the back is basically just a big circle, whereas in the third one (obviously more physiologically correct), the curve of the back makes the elephant (in my mind) look a bit old and frail. Like it's arthritic or something...

willami makes a lot of sense tho, Imma try that out, so I still stay sorta realistic and not too cartoony but give it that character he ahs in v 2

can you please have him farting . with his leg up i want to see a puff of air. keep going with this. what about a mouse worked in somehow. or instead of that necklace he has now give him like a blinged out 70s disco style necklace of a mouse.

hahaha the mouse idea for the necklace is nice, Imma do that, him farting might be too much hahaha

it looks like he needs something "shiny"....

i like version 3...maybe if you want to do a belt print and place the design on the bottom left you can make a conga line of other animals holding on to the elephant's tail also on skates with it wrapping around the side. or even baby elephants hold on with their trunks...it might be a nice change from you traditional center placement. if you could help me with my flash question i would greatly appreciate it! thanks =]

haha horcefaceDee it will have some shiny stuff once I start coloring it. hellomynameis thats a great idea but not work that well with the ele funk theme and I dont think they can do wrap around belt prints like that

I wanna see it on a shirt.

I will do the placement later down the road, when I clean it up, add coloring etc etc

but right now I'm thinking it will be center placement

love the new sketch, i realize people like the more cartoony look, but i think in this instance the more realistic the better. because as people suggested they wanted it to be almost like someone just shoved these props on the elephant and making it more cartoony takes away from that, keep it up cant wait to see it!

hey everyone here is an updated version, cleaned up a bit added some details, fixed his hump to some of peoples suggesitons, added the mouse chain instead of peace sign, brought back the star glasses, any more thought on it, before I start inking it?



by the way for people following the critique to view the techniques, everything so far I sketched with a mechanical pencil, first ideas on regualr scrap paper, this one on my sketchbook. :)

nice! I really like how its progressing, its front foot is slightly small compared to the others but that can be easily fixed. I don't know what colours you're aiming to use either but I think the jacket would look really cool with some sort of 80s retro design on it like this.

this version is way better than v3, but still lacks the lively kick of v2, in my opinion. it'd still turn out great if you used this one, but v2 would be a lil better, to me. just love the personality he's got in v2!

cool, yeah Imma try to stay away form making it too cartoony, so Im trying to grab elements from v2 and bringing them here to v4. and from some of the comments that were on v2 and v1 Im trying to make the necklace not as prominent.



I'll add some stars etc when i start coloring it. but not sure if they really fit with the design

I think I got like 5 comments on v3 saying they didnt like the pick in the afro lol, but umm I might bring it back just nto sure yet.

hey guys, I started inking the sketch with a micropen, then scanned it in, the rest I'm doing with a tablet. Im thinking of doing a cool pattern on the sweater too, hopefully Ill get some more done tomorrow!

I also started thinking of colors for the tshirt, I love fall colors so right away I went with a yellowish color, and thinking of doing browns etc, but this can change as well as I get more into the coloring, after Im done inking the design

Malcolm Man, I got a lot of great feeback that was actually erased in the rpevious versions :( but it has been really helpful, hopefully it helps a lot more towards the end when I start messing around more with the color etc

do you guys still like evrsion 2 better? I think the texture etc wouldnt work as good if it was a cartoony character. looks funnier to me when it's more realistic and sad now yet so happy hahaha

this is awesome man! how did you keep such a crisp line when scanning in? do you use Adobe Illustrator?

actually when I scanned it at like 600dpi the lines looked kinda crappy and there was a ton of stuff I had to clean up.



The drawing is sorta big as well I had to scan it in two parts then put it together etc etc, the rest of it I'm drawing with a tablet, I think because it's drawn a lot bigger, when I scan it and clean it up, the lines look a lot better when they are viewd at 100%



the secret is in cleaning up the lines after you scan it tho.



The actual drawing is on a 11in x 14in sketchbook

ooh ok no it makes sense, ummm it's actually a little more time consuming to draw and my lines are not as good as when I draw by hand. but you can get really detail and fix stuff a lot easier. So like mcdonalds, Im lovin it hahaha



...chirp - what you see in version 4 was all done by hand, the rest I did with a tablet, but it was a lot faster to get my lines I did by hand and I got the results I wanted better by hand then with the tablet, but the coloring, it gives me a lot mroe control and I can do a lot more with the tablet.

yeah the wacom, it's 6 by 8, but they sell one thats called a genious tablet which is only like $50 I heard it works really good from a good friend of mine that has it Alvarejo and his work is top notch full of details

hey guys Im up to version 8 I worked more on the coloring, and was checking how it would look on a diff color tshirt, what do you guys think? any suggestions on tshirt colors???

I really like it on red, works alot better than the green before it, though I'm not sure about the red halftones showing up through the elephant.. think I preferred it when it was solid like in version 7

coool, nice to know the only reason I did the halftones was to blend in the graphic with the shirt a bit more and to interact, but maybe you're right. Thank you. I'll post some more color evrsion to pick from in a bit.

Gold foil would be sweet. It is looking good on the red, and I actually quite liked the half tones, except for on the trunk, where they seem a bit much. Though I guess they aren't completely neseccary. Also I think that both lenses of the glasses should be fully reflective rather than being able to see the red background through one- otherwise they look like weird reading glasses than some bitchin' shades. But sweet- looking good!

The rightmost leg looks a tad off, by placement, and because the sleeve wrinkles are so close together. Also, it makes the mouse necklace hard to see, which is such a cool part!

honestly I think the mustard matches the design way better...

I don't really like the brown fro and brown skates.

Brown skates are what the skate rink gives you when you rent your own, and they suck. This elephant is too cool for that.

I would maybe use black with blue highlights, or some other combination instead.
