Playing with the pun Homies. I decided to redraw this idea from what I was working on and hopeing to get some feedback. I also have experimented with how I'm going to render this design, as you can see below. I was thinking about incorperating silver foil to add a little bling around the car grill and flower bed fencing.

the perspective (is that what it's called?) is amazing man.

I think a little bling at the front door, like a mat or a short walkway, might make it look like a heavy pendant, and get the idea across a bit more. I also like the idea of a krunk'd up car in the garage.
|
|
You can see the style I'm going for here.

squintygirl on Dec 31 '08
Cool. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done.

markay... on Dec 31 '08
It looks promising already! I agree that adding silver foil would give the look a great "homie" feel to the design! Can't wait to see it finished!

garciagirl on Dec 31 '08
Nice! I don't really understand why the shadows of the front door and garage connect like that
|
|
cupid_gx on Dec 31 '08
looks pretty sweet! and the 'shadows' in front f the door and the garage aren't connecting... those are walkways. anyways, cool design man, can you help me out on mine?

Thanks! And those dark spots that appear to be shadows are the walkways :)

Finally finished vectoring over the image. Now I'm going to go in and add some more details such as a eagle mustache over the garage and some garden bling. After that, I plan on shading the colors to have more of a gradient feel to mimick the Homie style. See the previous version to link to the style I'm going for.
Any suggestion would be much appreciated! |

I think the stuff you had going on around the houses in the fist sketch added a lot to it, but I like the idea that you are running with.

I think it be cool to have a bit of texture on the houses and halftones.
or like a bit of color, love the third one tho where the door looks like a 6-oclock shadow beard |
|
but I guess gotta wait til you add the gradients

I think the facial features need to be a bit more exaggerated. It's hard to get the joke when they are subtle. I love the style.

cool! I think the houses look pretty good but am missing out on some other homey details like mailboxes, toys everywhere, grass, trees, bushes, street lights? Or like a curb with a drain, little houses in the background? Or a fence around those three houses and a hint at more houses like just the roofs or tree tops. It just seems a little too smooth. Cool idea and it's coming along nicely!
|
|
are you planning on coloring it?
the flat oval of gray all the houses are sitting on kind of looks overly large and blobby. . . have you tried fading it out with maybe a scratchy texture or something? |
|
Awesome, thanks a lot for the comments!
EricDiaz, I will definitely add some more of those homey details great call! nwgriffi, I actually want it to be the houses expressions to be subtle :) Alexmdc, by gradients I also meant texture too. |
|
olie!, I'm definitely going to add some texture to this baby! Stay tuned for the future updates, I still need to add some more details to the environment first. Thanks for commenting!

Are you trying to make the house look like characters? If so you might want to look at some old-school animated films from the 30's for reference. That style would look sweet on a T-shirt.

You could pull the car out of the garage a little more to make it look more tongueish. ...and then to the left |

Thanks for you suggestion, this piece could definitely use some lively animals!

Oh, man. I love the fish-eye perspective. I sort of have nothing constructive to offer; I just love seeing a design from the sketch stage all the way through. I'm definitely keeping my eye on this one; just make sure you don't stick this design on the "belly" of the shirt!!! Everyone'd look like they had a beer belly or were preggers. :D

I also think a dog chasing a cat across the lawn would be a good touch!

I was had drawn a dog running after a cat in the front yards, but then decided against it. I thought that it seemed too random...anyone else have an opinion about this?

I know you've been at this for some time now so you'll probably hate me for bringing it up now, but. . . why are you drawing the houses from a fish-eye lens perspective? I'm not saying it's bad, just curious if you had reasoning behind it or if you have played with other perspectives.
|
|
I chose to use this perspective so that it would make primary character the houses, a gangster bowed chest look and a fish-eyed composition. You can see the style I'm trying to mimic HERE. I still have yet to shade and texture mine though, but I'll be getting there soon!

bcrider on Jan 07 '09
Any larger and it will start to wrap around the wearer; I think width-wise it's perfect. It might be a tad high, but the placement is good. Just slide it down a notch, like make the "ends" of the sidewalk level with the armpits of the shirt. Does that make sense?
I'd love to see it with some color!!! |
|

I like the image in Black and White. It looks like an old movie or cartoon from the 40's. I would punch the contrast of the cats running so they stand out some from the rest of the drawing.

cool looking drawing man, and its great work, sadly i think the over all concept is lacking. not the idea, but the fact is in no way would i think the houses here, as cool as they look, were "homies" because they dont strike you as being "people" once you know you can see it, its just hard to draw that conclusion
|
|
I'm hoping that I will convey that concept through perspective, composition and a color scheme similar to the Homies style...and also homes are homeys.
Maybe I need to title it Homie Homes? haha |
|
shewhositsandstares on Jan 08 '09
i like Homie Homes!... and the style (shading/texturing) is definitely adding a lot to your illustration, nice work!
i'm glad you did something like this, since i was little i've always looked at homes as faces, cars too... the windows or headlights look like eyes and there's always something for a mouth in the middle |

Final shaded version. Now I'm going to experiment with a little bit of color, but I'm pretty sure I'll keep it grayscale. Comments are much appreciated! :)

looks great shaded, very 3D

I think I like it more cartoony actually, like v12. Also, I don't think it needs to be as big on the tee as you have shown in previous versions. Stars would look really nice, because it has a very night-time feel to it. Love the dog and cat.
Good luck, great idea! |

I really think it needs color and ya latest version is the best. Also you need something at the center of it where all the perspective meets. Some thing neat or random. How bought a figure of a person?

Does anyone know if I should change the title, I dont want to run into any copyright issues.
