This is just a crap sketch which gives you the idea of how the shirt would work. Please tell me:

A) If it has been done before.

B) If it is a good idea worth persuing.

Eeek.. have similar idea but a bit diff

knowing you you could pull this off pretty well; don't know if it's been done though

Ah, always a shame when ideas crossover. Post yours up and we'll compare notes.

Just didn't want to waste time on this if it had been tried before.

Also, please tell me if my science is wrong.
ivejustquitsmoking

can't recall much bout the science ehehe

mine's still up in my head but it's not at all scientific.. just the basic 'plants need sunlight' thing

go right ahead with your sub :) I don't think it's been done except in the slogan submissions (krokun)

Yeah, You could have flowers coming out and all sorts. I'll have to check out that slogan, thanks for the heads up, marco.

that is a fantastic idea! really clever! I don't know much about science, but It seems right to me! I think it needs an arrow from the co2 to the leaf though :)

coffeecandle on Nov 04 '08
i'm pretty sure the science is right on that one. you should probably check it tho :)

i like it, haven't seen it before either. But that may not say much :P

Thanks, guys.

Yeah, I need to tighten this up a lot and sort the colours out. It was just a quick sketch last night. Thanks for the feedback.

are all colours possible in uv-ink?
Tonteau
   Tonteau on Nov 04 '08
I think so, yes. But probably best not to use too many.

This one uses quite a few, though: http://www.threadless.com/product/1416/Solstice

Love the idea, can't wait to see the finished article. Definitely keep working on it!

The science is right, at least in the simplest form of the equation, but you should find a way to make it clear that the light, CO2 and water are reacting and thta the glucose and oxygen are the products of the reaction. You have some arrows on the water and glucose which helps. It's also pretty obvious that the sunlight is going into the leaf from the sun, but it's a bit more ambiguous with the gases.

Nice stuff mate. I guess the key thing is to make it as interesting as possible when there's no UV light.

Mosquito88 on Nov 04 '08
fatheed has a point.. :)
squatterjohn
squatterjohn on Nov 04 '08
Perhaps the CO2 and water should be in regular ink and the glucose and oxygen only appear in the presence of sunlight.

Thanks for the feedback, doods. These are some good ideas.

Is winter a good time to be designing for sunlight activated designs though?

Although I guess it's not winter everywhere.

   Tonteau on Nov 04 '08
If you factor in the 3-6 months I'll take to get it looking smart. then it'll be a summer hit with the kids.......the science kids.

Anyhoo, I'm sure UV ink doesn't need direct sunlight to become visible.

i don't know of any designs already like this. i'd mix it up so some of it showed up w/o UV activation so the design isn't a total yawn on its own. very cute/clever.
