Watched POTC1 again today, and this popped into my head when I heard the quote "You're off the edge of the map, here be monsters".



This is just a Work In Progress, as you can obviously see, so I'd love to suggestions.



I plan on keeping the shapes simple, but some nice detail/shading through halftones.

I like the idea, maybe the ship needs some more detail. The green monster has a few too many humps imo, maybe get rid of the one closest to his head and tail also add an eye or tongue poking out like a snake. I like the octomonster grabbing at the map though, halftone shading would help with the details. How about 'thar' be monsters in the title?

I would make the ship (and only the ship) more detailed to draw the eye and make that the focal point. Also, it might add the a hint of differentiation between the real and the fanciful in this picture. I wouldn't go overboard though, just enough to make the ship stand out.

i really like the concept... though i would have taken a diff approach... like making it a sand shirt and have the map from birds eye view in the center and then the monsters all around...

Started halftoning. The tentacles of the octopus need to be redone, so I'll do that tomorrow.

I can't see any faults.



You could add some drawing, notes, circles, arrows, course outline or coordinate to the map, that could turn out well.
