This is my first submission, and I would love some constructive feedback.

past-tense-of-draw on Oct 10 '08
If I made it central then I would have to change it to lower, lower lower... that might be a bit boring.
I'll have to think about a pattern or detail ideas. |

I love the idea, really smart!

Tis unique and interesting!
But when you look past the cleverness its just white dots on a blue shirt. Keep the idea but maybe add another element. Some feint accenting in light blue maybe? Crit if youd like: http://www.threadless.com/critique/29876/Homebase |

thats awesome ...!! i wish more people would get it though..... and normally id never suggest this.... but maybe u should have an asterisk on the sleeve saying what it is......
but it really is a brilliant idea! no ones used braille on threadless before... at least not that ive seen if u have a minute, would love to hear what u think of mine http://www.threadless.com/critique/30061/Mousing_Around |

Really really cool concept.
It would be neat if the braile message was longer and traveled from somewhere near the top of the shirt to the same place at the bottom. |

mammalwear on Oct 16 '08
The only problem I can see with this tshirt is that very very few people (no one?) are going to know what it actually says. Therefore, it is essentially a dotted pattern, unless it happens to be one of those instances that you run into a hot blind girl... then you can ask her to feel your tshirt, and it all would have been worth it! ;)
past-tense-of-draw on Oct 16 '08
In a way that's a good thing that only the rare person will know what the shirt says. Say your talking to a guy/girl in a bar and she/he asks what your shirt says. Then you get to read the shirt to them and watch a smile creep into their expression.
viphya on Oct 16 '08
definite improvement with V2 - they actually look like bumps now. Maybe add a very small text explanation somewhere or very small text under each braile line - but keep the braile as the main part of the design.
comments? |
alavinder on Oct 16 '08
Fist of all, I love the shirt and I think the addition of text will take away from the shirt.
I will not explain, First threadless does not make a lot of shirts that have explanations on them; however some shirts do have difficult and odd meaning. secondly, I think it will take away from the overall design of the shirt. Oh, I would like to see it in other colors, but that is your choice. other than that I say submit it! |
PoshOne.be on Oct 16 '08
Nice! But maybe if you'd put the text in the middle of the shirt and changed the "left" into "zip" or "open", it would fill in the shirt more..

That's Braile for:

Random Comment on Oct 17 '08
As adornment alone, I like the format. Unfortunately, anyone who buys this shirt and wears it is going to have to explain it to everyone who asks about it, all day. So, maybe a text translation? If there's no room on the front, then the back?
past-tense-of-draw on Oct 17 '08
As I said in V2 translating is half the fun.
MCSPU on Oct 17 '08
Have it in puff detail so blind people can walk up to you and feel it and read it for themselves (Might be a bit awkward though).
Anyway. Goodluck! Comment on mine maybe? http://www.threadless.com/critique/29265/Mr_Sea_Horse_And_His_Bubble_Stealing_Minions#v8 |
H3ZUS on Oct 17 '08
yeah thats getting into some close territory for the blind wandering hand, but maybe it could work out for the better. looks good so far.
good luck! |
alavinder on Oct 17 '08
I liked it better as the one side. without the addition of the large dots.
I think elevator when i see the dots. |
past-tense-of-draw on Oct 17 '08
The big dot's are just to show more the detail of the circle and accent and not apart of the design.
ODB on Oct 17 '08
If you're going to display braille, better to leave out the big dots which aren't actually part of the directions. They are kind of distracting. I like V1 better, perhaps with the text explanation.
Check out my design! |
Tofeeno. on Oct 17 '08
Where you have the placement now is too far to the left i think... when a person is wearing it it will practically be on their side.
Try placing it above the heart and work down. I think you would benefit from Removing the larger dots. And i dont think a text explanation if incorporated in the right way would necessarily hurt the design, The Gentle Giant Lives....critique? :P |
ArsenicAlice on Oct 17 '08
I really like this. The placement is obviously at the best place. haha. I don't know why people aren't realizing that the big dots are NOT part of the design.

version 1 was perfect. I like it like that and think it's really cool.
StotheSteger on Oct 17 '08
were you going to use raised ink? and what if the braile started higher and to the right and then actually moved lower and to the left as if the person reading/feeling it was interacting more with the shirt. thanks for the feedback by the way!
past-tense-of-draw on Oct 17 '08
Version 1 was rejected by threadless.com.
I'm guessing that is was too simple. |
ArsenicAlice on Oct 18 '08
I was gonna suggest putting a blind guy on it. But... that might make people grumpy.
past-tense-of-draw on Oct 18 '08
I thought of the idea of putting a guy reading the braile but thought it would take away from the design.
1MIKO on Oct 18 '08
Very nice idea, even if I prefere your II version
A glance at mine? |
annienaseem on Oct 18 '08
i hate when they reject awesome ideas ..where the whole point is simplicity ..... i sincerely hope they accept it this time.....
i like it best on black and navy... i made changes to mine if u have a sec, i'd like to hear what u think: http://www.threadless.com/critique/30061/Mousing_Around |
i don't get it at all, and it doesn't look good.
past-tense-of-draw on Oct 18 '08
1MIKO: Version 3 and 4 are just the same design as Version 2 just tried to show different colours.
ginetteginette: Version 2 is a little more clearer to see concept because the magnified detail is out of the way. If you still don't get it, Think Dirty. |
oh, then i think it's both awful and doesn't look good.
squatterjohn on Oct 19 '08
Is it possible to print multiple colours on puff ink like that? It doesn't really seem necessary because if the ink was 3D it would look 3D naturally and show natural responses to lighting, you don't need to draw one in.
Fruitcake Monster on Oct 22 '08
I like it, but the only people who would understand it without the person wearing the tee telling them would be people who can see AND read braille, which isn't a big group.
past-tense-of-draw on Jan 04 '09
braille for:
lower lower lower and then to the left my hopes are that having the text in the back will make the design "less simple". |
past-tense-of-draw on Jan 04 '09
Oh and Ink: Puff
mrjotz on Jan 04 '09
Putting the text on the back takes away from the fun, like you said in previous versions.
Since they rejected the first version, why not make it more obvious to those who aren't ocularly challenged and write, "Fun with Braille" on the front, with the subtitle "Read the Braille, Win a Prize"? That may be the only thing you can do to get this thing, at least, up for scoring. Thanks for commenting on mine! |
stephaniep on Jan 04 '09
i see no problem on writing it on the back. i actually like it.
great idea to use the puff ink on it. and it would also look great on a yellow shirt. |
Eepster on Jan 04 '09
Having the regular text on the back makes one think it's directions for back scratching
radioactive-bagel on Jan 04 '09
I like it but although simplicity is good, this is missing something.
j-med-ter on Jan 05 '09
Haha!
Can you put the lettering behind the braille? Let the braille be puff, but have the translation directly behind it? I like the "fun with braille" suggestion above too. |
Haha, great idea! I think the braille on both sides of the shirt would work good.
StevenTu on Jan 09 '09
Hmmm braille is an interesting idea, you should have it in puff or flock or some specialised printing tech.
I''m not so sure about the "lower lower and to the left" thing, the text, even if I can read braille, doesn't mean anything for me. Having the text on the back detracts from it, but without it non-blind people won't understand. How about maybe construct it in braille and faux-braille? Like make up dotted alphebet but in ABC... if u know what i mean |
LILL PINK MONSTER on Jan 10 '09
I do think there's soemthing missing in this. It needs another cue to make the reader understand. Maybe you could try stylising the braille just a wee bit to resemble alphabets and you wont need the text then!
satir on Jan 10 '09
i love the idea.. but it would not be understood am afraid.. not sure how to make it clearer though..
but for now.. i think braille should be on both sides.. and maybe change the text.. to make it mean something.... but i still think the braille thing is awesome! |
stefanino on Jan 10 '09
do threadless accept graphics or test in the back?
past-tense-of-draw on Jan 10 '09
When you say the braille should be on both sides to you mean on the front and back or the left and the right?
threadless will accept designs with graphics or text on the back. Like this one. |
poisonberry on Jan 16 '09
lol .. like this idea of yours :)
you know what? loose the text on on the back entirly and just have puffy dotts where you placed them and maybe. with and astrix at the end with the translation writtin upsidedown along the bottom in small letters or in a small box on the back saying "*translation of brail from front"
Iaman on Jan 17 '09
I think the translation text needs to be made smaller/more obscured.
The main problem I see is that there really just isn't a way for somebody to look at the front, not immediately understand it, and then be guided to an answer, you sort of just count on somebody stumbling into the braille translation on the back. I think an asterix would really help (after the braille and in front of the translation, whether you move it or not) Reciprocal Critiquing? |
past-tense-of-draw on Jan 17 '09
I love the idea of the astrix. It's going to take awhile to but that into a 6th version because I lot my hard drive with all my files a few weeks ago.

past-tense-of-draw on Jan 18 '09
Using an idea from "biotwist" I added text and astrixes.
Tell me what you think. |
past-tense-of-draw on Jan 18 '09
For some reason I did it with the text up side down in version 6.

the puff paint idea is awesome! i'm trying to think of how they typically use braille in public signage next to text...
past-tense-of-draw on Jan 21 '09
It's usually a line under the text or printed directly onto plastic (or other material) that's is formed into braille.
satir on Jan 23 '09
i liked ur design from the start... :)
umm.. maybe if the text was n the corner.. a little to the right?? but... i still dunno why u chose this "lower and lower then to the left"? am not sure what it means |

past-tense-of-draw on Jan 29 '09
I'm tempted to.

bdeihc on Jan 29 '09
I think its a great design and conept!
past-tense-of-draw on Jan 29 '09
I just don't want people to dismiss it as dot's on a shirt.
Maybe if I make the title something like "... and then to the left (thing dirty)" |
bdeihc on Jan 30 '09
Maybe and a lil to the left, the abbreviation of "lil" should help a bit . Also t show more humor in the text and in keepin the brail serious, you could make it exagerate as it progresses. Something like:
lower, Lower, LOWER, now a lil to the left |
ImitatingLife on Jan 30 '09
you could do the asterisks in another color so it is not seen as a dot.
haha this is funny.. i would just change the font to something sans serif and hand written.. cool!
past-tense-of-draw on Feb 14 '09
I like the idea of sans serif and hand written.
I was thinking of moving it to the same place on the back or back to the way it was on version 5. |
G.D.S.M.S. on Feb 14 '09
I like the puff paint idea as well. The font type is a little weak. Just out of curiosity, does that braille actually say something. If so what?
