Strong cardboard box/light kid.



Either that or I was just a fat ass when I was young.

Also, should the kid be thinking about lions instead of his shoulder saying "lion?"

this is really awesome. good colors and good illustration. the only thing i think you should do is make the lion a little bit smaller. i think its a bit too out of proportion.

It is a strong cardboard box (like the ones used for moving). :)

But I can dent it a little bit more. It didn't really want to use a thinking bubble and I wanted the speech bubble to come out of the comic book. But if it is confusing and it doesn't come across I will change it. Thanks for the comments.

Lion smaller? That is no problem.

Great colors, and it looks like it would be a big hit with gradeschool kids. If anything, i would just say to make the Lion look even more majestic and powerful if that makes sense.

Very cool, how about making him lie on his stomach, like we all used to when we were kids, in front of the box reading, just for the additional pun value?



You could maybe push it further and give him a cardboard crown on his head, for king of the jungle, and eating a Lion bar - it's a UK thing, or at least something that looks like a Lion bar.



But then, it looks great as it is...

I think about adding a Lion chocolate bar!

Ooh, this is a fun design. I love the color and the box and his little top hat and the magazine and everything!



My absolutely ONLY suggestion to make this better is what he's imagining; perhaps he could imagine himself riding or playing with the lion - interacting with it in some way? He's dreaming of "what could be, if only I had my lion" so I think that'd be even cuter.

The colors are strong and so is the drawing. i'm not sure, but i think this illustration has something to do with lions.



but seriously, i agree with ihollywould. if he's that obsessed with the creatures, he would be imagining himself interacting with it. the speech bubble should be a thought bubble and be more directed at his head.



these are some changes, the speech bubble would be pretty easy to fix, but drawing the two interacting would be a bit more tedious. maybe, the kid could be interacting by lying next to him with the crown on his head.

Hello! I have changed a few things. I also have tried an interaction but it got way too crowded up there in the bubble. I like it better this way. The only thing I'm going to try to add now is a Lion chocolate bar somewhere on the ground.

The From Africa is a nice addition. I agree with the 6 other people... SUBMIT!! Hit me back.

i would just get rid of the 2 transparent thought bubbles within the large orange circle. they look kind of odd. other than that id say submit.

Yes! I agree with ivejustquitsmoking, get rid of the two gray ones. Maybe you should add some shadows in the shoelace, in crayon, on the box ... you just put shadows on the kid! And maybe the halftones will work better than the solid ones. It's a very realistic and beautiful design, good luck!

one thing how did u get the dots to make the speech bubble i am trying to do something like that effect and finding it impossible cheers

I use Corel to get my dots but if you look thru and search the blogs you'll find some instructions on how to create HALFTONES in Illustrator, Photoshop, ... that should be of help to you. :) Thanks for the comment!

I think that this is wonderful work, however I see this more as editorial work rather than on a tee shirt. The tee shirt doesn't give it justice. You should send this out on a post card to art directors for commercial illustration work.

but the lion looks stiff, i think it would look better if its like...curved or something, I mean a diff pic of a lion that is on a diff position.

i like the design but the bubble seems a little out of place?

I like all the different representations of a lion. But won't you have any copyright issues with any of these images? The candybar in particular.

There might be copyright issues with the Lion bar but I always could have taken it out. Left it in there for fun. All other elements - the logo on the shirt, the comic... - are made up.
