Here's a design that I haven't finished yet, I'm just wondering what you think about where I'm going with it...
I'm doing more with the hair, and I haven't finished the tail yet either, the face I'm still working on, making the lines darker, and giving it shading so it suits the rest of the body.
Some things I would like to know is what colour T-shirt you'd like to see it on, if there are any speciality inks I should use in certain areas, and generally, any colour you'd like to see in it (Please be specific with the colour)
Oh, and other comments are welcome.
Thankyou, and feel free to go through my other critiques...
Yes, placement is going to be a big thing for me, I'll have it on either lower left or right corners, I'm not a big fan of center placements. I'm also having tree braches and bubbles out of the hair (It loos good, don't worry, I've got them on my scetch and it looks alot better) and I think I will have the bubbles in glow in the dark.
i agree with the placement, would love it on lower right assuming it's facing left. i think white ink on black tee or grey flock on black tee would be nice.
Nice detail! I like how you've improved the tail from version 1. I think what you need to do is to decide where you want to go with it. It look like you're trying to do too many things with it at the moment. I don't really like the claws and hands and trees and birds and bubble coming out of the 'mane'. Instead of making the main fly off in different directions, perhaps try to achieve more of a 'flow' by having all of the mane flowing (for example) backwards and then breaking into thinner strands in swirls. Try to make it more elegant and natural, I guess.
If you're going for a play on seahorse/horse then just call it 'sea-horse'. Most people with a brain cell will see what you've done.
I don't think one on it's own will be enough, either. You're going to need a seahorse gang! Nice stuff so far, though - good luck! :)
Ha ha, very true. I don't actually know where I am going with it, it was just a random idea I thought about and decided to put it into drawing.
I think with the mane I was trying to have a I've-Been-In-The-Water-For-A-Long-Time-And-I've-Stayed-Still-So-My-hair-Has-Gone-Everywhere look.
I think I went overboard with the bubbles and claws and everything because I thought V1 looked a bit bland. I might keep some of them though, just because this sea horse is the leader of the soon-to-be-gang of sea-horse's, and needs to look dramatically different to the other two (I'll have a trio-gang of sea-horse's). Oh, and I probably will have his hair more flowing...
I'll get rid of the two clawsand the bubbles that they are holding, and maybe have just one bubble infront of his face that he and his two buddies will gather around, like it's treasure that they have just stolen...
Anyway, thankyou for your comment. VERY appreciated.
This is Monica - Em's auntie in Japan. She sent me a link to this design. I must say that I think it's very beautiful work. Quite surreal how the ends of the mane look like trees with birds flying overhead. I really like that. In terms of constructive criticism, maybe his eyes could be a little bit stronger and the shape of his head could be refined more. Also, don't be tempted to fill the empty space with "stuff" - it distracts the viewer from the seahorse and will take away from the tension created by the space between them. I would also love a seahorse t-shirt!
