What could I add?



I had the idea of the Vitamin D meter for a while now. It was going to be like a progress bar, but when I saw Wall-E, I knew it should look like that.

I like the design as it is, but I kind of wonder how well it would actually work. I'd also prefer it on a darker shirt.

UV Ink is not possible on darker colored shirts. I had it on black but had to change it when I realized this.

Why not just say solar, instead of vitamin d

Better that you moved it to a lighter color since UV ink doesn't work on dark tees. . .

as for the actual design, to be honest I think it would be a little too simple as it is right now for too many people to want to spend $17-20 bucks on it. . . Simple is good in most cases, don't get me wrong, I'm just not sure what I could suggest you do to give it more appeal. . . It might be good to just brainstorm and sketch out some more visual variations on the concept, you might happend upon something more interesting. But see what other people think first, too!

Yeah... I don't know what to do about that. I've wanted to do a UV ink shirt since it was announced and seeing as only 1 was printed so far (i think), I thought this might be cool.

I like the idea of a solar power meter, but not a Vitamin D meter and not in the style of Wall E.

I think you could change it up, make it original, and use solar power meter. Who wants to wear a Vitamin D meter? Solar power meter is leagues better.

I agree that I think the solar power aspect is cooler than the Vitamin D one.

Well changing the text to SOLAR CHARGE LEVEL would not be too difficult... It's just that it really does not make sense anymore when you do that.

Am I allowed to try subbing this and then restyling it a different way and subbing it once I'm done?

You can never resubmit the same idea, even with changes to it. However, if you tweak your design after submitting it and they want it to be printed, you can submit the slightly changed one instead.



I think it could work if you take out the Wall E themed layout and make it solar charge level. :(

I just opened it up and it looks kind of weird if in the sun it has red, orange, and yellow bars.



If it's possible to have all yellow in the sun, and then super glow red at night, then that might look cool.



The indoors one then makes a problem because it will show the yellow on the glow red bar, and then the middle orange ones. Maybe just keep the bottom one glowing red and all the others yellow? (if you can understand what I just wrote)

What should be red at night? Just the bars? Right now I'm thinking about having the bars and the sun symbol glow, but not the SOLAR CHARGE LEVEL or border....

Unless I'm mistaken, super glow is transparent during the day. That would allow me to make it all super glow red, except for the full charge bars (which is what I did in this img).



But for the indoor bars to be orange only while indoors is not possible (I don't think), because when you go out in the sun, the UV ink can't cover up the orange-ness in the bars.

Nice gimmick idea, but it seems like it needs more... I dunno, maybe if you made it look like it's on the torso of a robot or something? Seems kinda plain just by itself.

Hehe. This is a nice idea, Puma! Make the sun more of a sun and less of a flower and have look at what it looks like without the box around it.



Make the metre reading taller - maybe add an orange to go between the yellow and red. This would make the yello a UV react colour. Make the text a different colour makybe? a white or a grey. And try it on white. I like white and UV colours will work best on white. Consider making teh UV element more interesting, and dumping the glow bit.



Use none, all or some of my suggestions!

I think it would really strengthen the piece conceptually if you added something else. It says it's charging... but what is it charging? The robot idea could be one route. You could also add something else like, for example, a light bulb that might glow in the dark once it's "fully charged". I wouldn't use a light bulb because that might be too obvious, but having something for it to charge would be good, methinks.

Cute design, needs a little more style though I think. Also I'd like to see something about Vitamin D on there for all the non-biology oriented, like the charge bar forms a D maybe?

Maybe I could have a wire going from the solar charge level to the back of the shirt and plugging into the "person"?

One concern I have is how you plan to mask the regular design of the shirt with the glow-in-the-dark ink that says you're low on energy.

If there's regular ink on the shirt displaying 5 ish bars at all times, when night comes, how do you veil 4 of the bars? Do you just mean everything about the shirt will be in glow-in-the-dark ink, except those bars, so that when there's no light you can't see the other bars?

I guess that'd work, but it might not work as smoothly as it does in theory...usually you can still make out the design unless there's absolutely no light at all in the room



Anyway, the design itself lacks depth and visual appeal. You've got the concept down, and it's a really cool concept that could be taken somewhere. But right now, the design is too simple and just isn't very appealing, y'know? Also, I know you like the Wall E theme and you were inspired by it, but don't let it keep you in a cage. Think creatively to see if you can imagine an even better design.

One thing that always looks good on designs is when they are hand drawn, for a rougher appearance. Even if you hand drew the text to look exactly like the text you're using now, it'd have a slightly rougher feel and be more pleasing to the eye.



Right now, in my eyes, the design doesn't feel 100% complete. Go back to the drawing board and keep thinking up ideas on how you could better portray this cool idea~

I think powering something mundane could be interesting. Or maybe plugging into something natural, that makes use of vitamin D, or sunlight? Just make sure not to lose the emphasis of the charger in your design.



Unless you had a very artful design to the charging indicator. Something more aesthetically pleasing? Then it might stand on its own?

I think you should keep thinking on it and figure out what YOU'D think would look good.

Find the inspiration for the design, and then finish it. If someone tells me to change something huge about a piece of art I've done, usually I can't unless I get inspired by their words...it may be different for you, but I can't really offer any other advice other than it doesn't look complete right now:[

if you're using uv ink it'll fade when it isn't exposed to too much light, so i don't think you need glow in the dark ink as well.

maybe i misunderstood the superglow bit.

The super glow only affects the red parts of the design.

I think the gauge itself looks a bit too sketchy.

How'd it look if you put like an energy tank with gauge bars on the side.

tried building a robot around it, didn't really look that good... and it kind of ruins the point of the whole being out in the sun gives you vitamin D thing......

Love the concept!!, but the design needs work. I don't know exactly what needs to be done, but I guess I want to see something that I can not re-create by simply pasting boxes and clip-art sun. I also think the banner across the top draws too much attention.

I don't think you need to add more items (no robots or other things that do not create, store, or use vitamin D), just make a more interesting gauge and possibly a more unique sun so the artwork itself attracts attention, rather than just the concept.

Try to make the gauge reflect something related to your theme so you can lose the banner on top completely and the design will still make sense. Also, consider making the sun/yellow darker so it stands out on a light shirt.

I think the problem may be that with only a quick glance, all you see is horizontal red bars.

Stick with the idea and keep working on it - it is really great!

I think that some of the problem has to do with the shirt color. Things seem a bit off balance for some reason. It is a great idea, but it's just not appealing to the eye just yet.
