This is my plan for the "Democracy" competition. It seems fitting that I go through the whole process of making it in critique, what with that being the more democratic and all.
But ultimately I still get to do whatever I want with it, sort of like, you know, how representative democracy works.
Anyway, feedback on the sketch'd be great as well as any recommendations on where to go next.
just wanna see some reactions. I'll probably finish/color it as a vector illustration, but here's just a little test as a belt print. I think its sorta cool.
i thought it was great before... but i hadn't even considered a belt print. it looks amazing. careful with that, though. it will limit the amount of colors.
This is more in the right direction- still pretty early though.
I took the original sloppy drawing, converted it to halftones, livetraced that, and then started putting colors in under the trace. It has a pretty nice gritty texture in the details.
At first though, I thought it was the donkey looking at the ears, until I saw the trunk. Now I see that it seems to only be the Elephant (rep) amongst all the elements.
I'm not going to say it shows bias, as it's a weak argument, but I half expected to find them both in the chaos.
Sure. I sat down to draw and my first thought was, "stay away from all cliche american political symbols". Then I did the opposite... I'm happy with it and I think its okay that I used the symbols because its in a bit of a subversive way.
Do you think its clear enough that its supposed to be both? I mean, it has 2 sets of ears and stuff, but maybe I could do more to clarify that.
sorry about that. I really didn't intend to bash you, I was just letting you know that you should take a different approach. That kind of shirt is probably fine other places, its just way too niche for Threadless.
