Great illustration and I really dig the concept. The Admiral smoking the pipe is a really nice touch. I think the only issue you may come upon is people not understanding what the design is about without explanation.

"Things In The Woods" is one of favorite designs btw, I have it posted on my memer page. I hope it gets printed.

the tactical world map on the table could be changed to a large image of a squid vessel to better tell this story. You may want to move that table farther into the foreground so that it can be bigger. Your treatment of shadow with black on the whales is clunky, consider dumping it and just use stippling or one of your nice textures.

I decided to follow eelydave's suggestion and made the table bigger and changed the map to enemy sub blueprints.

I guess the shading on the whales is clunky but my feeling was that the entire drawing is somewhat clunky so I didn't change it, but maybe I will if most people think I should.



btw, I don't know why there's some white showing up around some of the lines in slide one. pretend it's not there, I'll get rid of it next time.

I really like the style of this illustration, but the linework in the faces of the whales is a bit confusing. I really dislike the harsh dark line in the middle of the forehead, to me I keep reading it as a deep gash. Besides that I think this is great!! :)

what did you make this design with? did you hand draw it first or is it all done on computer?

WOW!!! The changes look so much better! I also just noticed the whale in the back with the two eyed periscope, really funny :) Let me know when I can vote on this!

It's pretty low tech, really. I always hand draw first, ink it with microns, scan it, and then put it into photoshop and make changes with my tablet (I have a wacom bamboo fun tablet) I use illustrator for resizing because I think it comes out a little better that way. then save for web and put it into the flash template. ta da!



I should really learn to use illustrator though....

yeah seriously; make it so

maybe if they were a bunch of white whales on an oldstyle ship but they where hunting after a giant captain Ahab. And he was jumping out of the water like a whale. Maybe jumping over the ship. It'd be like reversing the story of Moby Dick.
