Started out as a little doodle, some shapes, and I turned it into this.



This royal gecko/salamanderthing went to explore the deep seas. With his book. Without his gear. Perhaps he should have read the book.



Right now, its half finished, backdrop needs work.



And I think it's missing a nice punch, something to make it funny or make it have some message. Any idea's on this?

I need to add some detail to the ground, and redo the school of fishes at the side, then I can call this finished, I think?

Oh, dont mind the darkblue scratches going over the eel-creature at the bottom, its a mistake xD

I think your concept is interesting, and i like the background and colors. I had to read your description to see what kind of animal the white one is, and I couldn't read the book title.

I'm not sure whats on the animals head, a crown?



Mabe if you work a little on these things, like book somewhat bigger / or maybe dropped on the foreground? + make the fight a bit more dynamic? You could give the blue eel-moster a pair of arms, to the strangle the white one with, for instance.

Placing the book in front, fallen in the sand, is a great idea. This'll add alot of depth.



It wasn't really a fight I was aiming for, mainly just a drowning character with evil seacreatures around it, but I think a struggle would make this more interesting.



I don't have time to work on this for the next 2 days, so it's gonna take a couple days to come up with a new version, but thanks for your help!

i didn't get that he was falling as i thought they were all sea-ghouls. i love the background and the colors. this is going to look great, regardless. there's not much to say until you finish your new version.

My computer died, had to get it repaired.

Thought I had backupped all of my important files, but I missed a few Illustrator files.

This is one of them.

But, there's good news too, I'm working on another design, that I will place in the critique section soon.
