This is just a sketch! I wanted to get feedback from you guys again, since you helped so much on my Raven submission.



This is a sphinx. A Sphinx is a zoomorphic mythological figure, depicted as a recumbent lion with a human head. Some are represented with wings, like mine. Any thoughts on the figure before I start inking? Thanks!

it's hard to talk about sketch, you know. So far i like it.

I like this.maybe tweak the neck a little bit. original idea!

everything is OK but the hands and the guitar. the hands needs some more work, especially the palms and fingers.

I agree, I think if you just fix up the fingers and also--the back leg looks a bit off to me, I think if you just play around with that a little then it shall be grand.

I guess no one noticed that the hands are paws. Oh well.



It's a good sketch so far. I think the difficult part will be making the transition from lion rump to human torso/head convincing. Right now I think the lion is too small or the human is too big in proportion to each other. Also, the wings are set too far back, not that they can't be there, just that we've been programmed (angels, dragons, faeries, etc.) to expect shoulder attachments.



The guitar is smallish (toy-like) but if scaled up to relative size it might be overwhelming. Maybe a lyre or mandolin would work better. Then again, they're not as cool as a guitar.



Anyway, great start and I'm looking forward to the finish. Really love the Raven and your other work. Cheers!

hey i noticed! left hand is descriptive of the reversed guitar strung backwards for left handed geniuses like Hendrix and Ziggy . actually one could play mean finger picking with claws.

I like the sketch, love the face.



But the wing on the right needs to be moved a little forward so they seem more apart.



Plenty of time for changes though as this is only the sketch

yeah i'd actually like to see the wings higher on the shoulder.

The neck is awkward, maybe add a necklace or something to make use of that space? The eyes bother me a little, they don't look like they're staring at the same direction. Having said that, I think this is very promising sketch.

This is really cool! Yes, the body transition is kinda weird. Looking forward to seeing it progress.
