I think I probably will. Maybe behind the horse. It did appear in my list of things to include, but I am reluctant to overcorwd the scene. Will see what it looks like. :)

Either that or I add in some charcters to mean mutually ensured destruction. I didn't think it THAT important - although it can be done. This is why I use the crit!

I think I'll add a window on the left wall and have a gun coming out pointing at the guy on the ladder.

Just an idea... You could have a John Wayne-type being the only figure not covered by someone else.

Well, there's at least 3 guys with no gun pointing at them, but I think it doesn't matter. I love the idea of one guy with dynamite wired all over the scene, ready to blow the whole scene to hell! And can the pets be doing something funny? Maybe a cat ready to swat the chihuahua? I dunno...great concept as always!

I hope this one will be as amazing as the rhino one

hmm one picky little thing is that the knobs or whatever over the door and window of the building are not evenly spaced. and i don't know what they are.

i guess they're the floor that the guy's standing on...

I think all the animals should be pointing guns as well.

Hey - thanks for the feedback guys. I played around with the idea of dynamite - but I concept came from having a standoff that was apparently over nothing - where nobody knows why they are doing it, and nobody wants to back down. If I added in dynamite or some other dramatic element - It would narrow the narrative. I like the idea of giving dog guns to the dogs, but I want to avoid anything too surreal and I think having them square up to each other in a dog-like manner is best for this design. I have now editted it so that all Mexicans are in the firing line. Will ink it shortly and post it when its done. Please keep suggestions coming if you have any. Thanks.

icebar - those are crude log beams to support the roof - common in buildings of this age and type. The spacing was not measured intentionally, but if it bothers me enough, I will make some alterations. Thanks.

Haha. Thank you Daydreamz. Is that a burn disguised as a compliment? Lol. I love the sketching part, as that it the really creative bit, but I have to ink and colour it so it can be printed - I'll try not to allow it to lose to much of it's character when I go onto the next stage. :)

looks like you've already got him there actually. Right in the middle, his head is overlapping the bottom left corner of the entrance to the building.

I was going to use green white and red to give it that Mexican feel, but I'll experiment and see what you think

ha! this is hilarious! you should put a tumbleweed blowing through! I love the dogs, that makes the whole concept shine. I think that the horse would look a little better if it wasn't in motion, just to add to the stagnant stalemate feel.

Thanks Chris, I did try a tumbleweed - but I found they're hard to draw and vector without becoming a strange incomprehensable blob! And they are best rolling through the middle, and there's not really any space any more. The horse is not actually in motion, but just lifting his heel and dragging his shoe in the dirt, as bored horses do. I wanted to differentiate him from the donkey - so hopefully that isn't too distracting.

Hello hello. Inked and vectored. I thickened up the lines or else it would have been too intricate for a t-shirt design. I'm yet to decide on a colour scheme. It was going to be bright - but someone mentioned sepia. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I am cheered by the fact that sombreros tend to look like a nipple fest when gathered in large numbers.

lol... i like it, add some brown tones to the baan barrels and stairs, all that is not a sombrerudo.

i also think the guns should be black and there should be another cactus on the left to balance it out..

I know about the proportions of the chichuahua, but it is a charicature to make him more obvious (without distorting him). Otherwise he was too small in relation to the overall illustration. And I'll make the poncho on the left green to balance the 2 cactii on the right! Thanks :)

Haha. That would be funny - there has been some great suggestions, but I'm more or less sticking with what you see. Like I said earlier - I don't want a 'story' or a narrative to the illustration - just a ridiculous Mexican standoff which and let people make their own minds up. I like idea that one of them went to get something out of their pocket, and suddenly all guns were drawn.



I'm now going through the process of colouring it - which is pretty taxing - but its going ok at the mo and its got a real Mexican feel about it.

Awesome, very Mexican. I suppose you will be adding shades and some detail/rubble/stuff/dust on the ground? That would be the proverbial icing on the cake.

I don't know. I could spend another couple of hours on it adding bits of detail, but I don't know whether it would improve much further.

The design looks gorgeous, but I would keep it all in sepia tones...

I've added shading. This is just to bring the characters out a bit more and give them shape. There are subtle differences between this and the last version. I think this is more or less it. I'm just going to put together a submission image then I should be good to go.

I'm with henry, simpler colour scheme is less visually confusing. Great idea and design though.

To late! lol. I've subbed it now, and I think it's best in Mexican colours - it would be too plain in monotones.

Awesome! No shades on the ground surprises me, though. But that's probably a good picture!

Thanks. I tried ground shadow, but they were too much (darkest shade of brown) and made the boots disappear into blobs and made the illustration too heavy. The ground is dark enough that it wouldn't cast a significant shadow in anycase - also, where shadow is sometimes used to aid perspective - thres so many elements on the plane, that the perspective is pretty obvious without it.

I really love it, but the guy hanging out the window vs the guy "sleeping" seems a little awkward to me ... it doesn't really look like the window guy is pointing at the sleeping guy, and it took me a while to realize that the sleeping guy was sleeping, not anatomically challenged.

At least you realised he was sleeping in the end :) The guy hanging out of the window is not pointing at the sleeping guy - he's pointing at the double-barrel shotgun guy just right of centre as he couldn't see the sleeping guy under the window - who then sneaked a gun under his chin. Sleepy siesta guy is being pwn'ed by barrel guy, who in turn, etc etc.... I'll map out the barrel directions with red lines if anyone wants clarity :)

It doesn't need shadow indeed, that's sort of what I was trying to say, but somehow my fingers didn't type what my mind was thinking :)

I'm just wondering what program you used to get it from a pencil drawing to clean lines ? I want that program!

Hi Bugeluv. Thanks for your interest. I had to do a couple of things to get the next stage - I inked it with pen - then I scanned it into photoshop - then moved it into Adobe Illustrator which allows you to clean the lines by live-tracing it into a vector image. Its essentially really easy - but getting the right trace takes a while and it doesn't always look right the first time. I hope that helps.

Man, i need to get me Adobe Illustrator, this live trace thing sounds magic. Freehand (which is what i use) has a trace feature but its not that great.
