I used 8 colours for this.

It doesn\'t really say how close to the edge designs can be printed so that could cause a problem! (anybody know?)

adjust the size of the fingers, so that they all appear realistically looking like they com from the same hand. Currently the middle finger looks far fatter than the others...

a little creepy. great concept though. nice illustration too. i think it might look a little better without the darkest tone right under the nails. the thumbnail has a pretty sharp corner.

Yeah those darker patches behind the nails are bothering me, but I really love it, and I'm gutted that they won't except for sub.

I like this concept, although I have no idea if they can print it or not. Maybe you could extend it to the back? Like have his arm go off of the bottom of the shirt.

Also, I know white blends into the background here, but in general it doesn't. Black would probably achieve the slimming effect better in general.

Hmm.. Joyce has a point - black would be goooooood... If you were worried about the presentation, just change the colour of your model's pants and put it on a black background.

a black background would be good, gray might be good as well. also, the way the little finger points away from the others seems a little awkward. overall, though, it's very clever and after working on a few things, you should definitely submit this.

awesome idea, but the little finger needs a bit of tweaking. it looks a bit strange for some reason. also, have you tried the design without the white? the white looks a bit out of place. you could get the same effect by using more shadows... just a thought but otherwise, great idea! keep working on it!

The idea is really awesome. Somehow something is missing, I am sure what is it thou.

the shadows need to follow the scrunching of the shirt. re: little finder - the nail needs to be rotated and moved up a touch. looking good.

What I had written anyway was the changes from version 1 based on everyone's comments:

I resized nearly all the fingers (the thumb and middle finger in particular), went over the tones again to try and give the fingers a bit more contrast, removed the dark colour from under the nails and went over all the outlines and creases again.

I included examples of the design on different coloured tees as you can see - this should work on nearly any colour except for black (or a very dark colour) and white. Black hides the crease lines and white blends in to the white area of my design killing the effect.

I thought of trying the 'wrap around to the back' idea when I started this but I'm not sure if they can print around to the back of the tee - I didn't think so but If anyone knows for sure please let me know. I'd definitely try it if it's possible to print wrap-around designs. (I know belt printing wouldn't work with this because I've used lots of colours.)

As it stands now, the blank area looks best white. I tried black and greys but they take away from the hand too much or blend into the tee too much. I also tried removing the white area completly but that eliminates the squeezing effect. I will post up how it looks with black soon anyway in case everyone disagrees with me!

To draw this, I took a photo of my wife's hand holding a doll and used that for reference and her fingers were all basically in the same position so I'm not sure why the little finger looks awkward or out of place. Maybe it's because of the limited shadows but I have already used all 8 colours so I cant add any more dark shadow tones to the fingers. I will definitely make those changes though, shaunz8 - might be just the thing!
I think if all the fingers lined up straight anyway, it would look forced and unnatural, but I could be wrong - I'll give that a try too.

The fingers are perfectly shaped - maybe just stretch the shadows out more between the nails and the first knuckles cause it makes the knuckles appear too close to the nails at the moment.

Some fairly subtle changes here since the last upload but they're all based on everyone's comments so I'm hoping it's looking right now.

I fixed the nail on the little finger and re-drew the shadows to follow the scrunching of the shirt. I moved the knuckle lines back and stretched the dark area just behind the nail to make that a bit closer to realistic.

Also, as you can see, I put the design against black (as well as the white from before) - I think I've changed my mind on that one...the black would work better, the more I think about it!

I might actually just submit the image above giving examples with both the white and black blank area. Either or both could be used.

Please let me know of any final thoughts on the design before I submit.

great idea!! but you have to figure something out with the background behind that hand.. also maybe a variations.. like long nails or claw ? or maybe a ring on one of the fingers ?

Just thinking, It might work well if the shirt color is really vibrant and the background is greyish or neutral. What color do you see when you walk around squinting?

stejahen, I do think it looks well on a vibrant coloured tee but I tried the grey/neutral colour and tbh it just doesn't look right.

I started with the white but the more I think about it, black should blend in quite well - it would nearly look like shadow (when the person's arms are down). No?
On the other hand, the white, I think, would work in a lot of instances too!

It's hard to know - I probably will end up submitting the picture above ... giving examples of both possibilities. I don't think there is an alternative way to do the background but I'm happy enough with it at this stage (I think!)
