tried to give the camel more volume....
professorE on Mar 07 '08
That is one loud camel!
Playing. Seriously, though, this would look great as a large print, maybe with a center and side placement option. Also, I think some sandy tones would look fantastic for this. The concept is very striking, though. I'm going to encourage this to move forward. |
thanx professorE...
gonna experiment with the placement, tee color and size indeed... |
SquishyPanda on Mar 07 '08
Definitely go big. There's way too much detail on the camel hump to waste on cramming it into a little space.
do camels have tails? If they do, then this one is missing his, and it kinda looks weird. Maybe the balloon should be attached to it (if camels do have tails.) I like the shadow. Maybe put it on the lower right (looking at the shirt) so the shadow falls across the middle? |
jep, they do have a tail.... haha
better give him one :-) |
SquishyPanda on Mar 07 '08
LOL
rAmpantDesigns on Mar 07 '08
LOL at camel toe.
Tail missing was the first thing I saw. Personally, I would like the hilights and shadow to contrast more. |
Mountain Gnome on Mar 07 '08
indeed the 2nd design today where a tail was missing, hmmm I agree, more contrast, but I think it is a cool design!
working on the tail, and the contrast could be a thing as well....
but that's something i'm gonna work on this weekend. |
I think that the colors are a bit boring, but the imagery is very nice. The characters are really flat, and could definitely use more volume. I don't know if your trying to have a water color wash kind of feel, but I think that another wash of orange would work well with what you have so far? Hope this helps!

-A bit more volume, if possible
-placement i think should be large on the bottom of the shirt, sort of as if the camel and person are walking across the hemline -I love the city -i love the balloon -the camel needs an eye, i think -is that supposed to be the haghia sophia? |

worked on the shadows and the colors... it gets more volume that way. also want to put a bit more detail in the town itself.
and the placement is much better here.. right? |
imaginary_wanderer on Mar 07 '08
Much better. Nice!
It does need more detail, but I'd say you have the overall picture down. It's looking great so far! |
Keter on Mar 07 '08
Work on the camels legs/feet and his bridle.
SquishyPanda on Mar 07 '08
Yes! The contrast is great. What if the guy's turban was another little city or something? I dunno. Or maybe more wrinkles in his cloak. Seems like all the detail is smooshed into one area.

well, another version with more detail and i'll keep adding :-)
thanx for all the comments so far.... |
peddlerofdeath on Mar 08 '08
I agree with squishypanda, it might be cool if you put a few buildings on the turban too. Try it out.
ok, good idea
robinbailey on Mar 08 '08
i really don't think you need all the shadows.
i could be wrong, but i'd try it without them. |
@robinbailev:
wich shadows do you mean? on the ground, camel or cameldriver...? |
organicly on Mar 08 '08
the first thing i saw was a camel and with a town in the distance....................................................................................... i forgot what other thing i was going to say, oh well.
organicly on Mar 08 '08
i remembered, the ears seem a little weird
the camel and guy look like they are made out of paper to me, but maybe that was what you were going for. . . ?
token_egyptian on Mar 08 '08
Hmm...it's kinda stereotypical to show Arabs with camels and mosques, isn't it? I kinda see this as being deemed offensive.
imaginary_wanderer on Mar 08 '08
Keep the shadows. Though, looking at the camel shadow, something seems wrong between the city shadow and the head shadow, like there's to much empty space.
token_egyptian, I see what you mean by the stereotypes, but I don't see it as being offensive. The focus isn't on the Arab, but on the camel-city and the balloon. It's more of a scenic design than a cultural design, I think. It's true, I'm not from the Middle East, so I don't know /exactly/ how it might be perceived by an Arab, but it still doesn't seem "offensive." |
peddlerofdeath on Mar 08 '08
The only reason it's stereotipical to portray Arabs with camels and mosques is because Middle Eastern nations have large numbers of camels and mosques. It isn't offensive if it simply portrays a local culture.

SheepMan22 on Mar 08 '08
this is gonna be sweet when its finished
thanx for all the comments :-)
maybe i have to put some kind of a fur / clothes mapping over the camel and his driver. But than it might be starting to get too realistic.... and the focus won't be on the town on top anymore...... don't know if i like that... we'll see to imaginary wanderer: i see what you mean, the lowest part between neck and city hasn't got the right shadow... |
only thing i have to add i think, are the muscle lines of the camel, and some more houses on his side (a quick sketch looked already convincing)
but i don't know about adding a town on the arabs head...? |
imaginary_wanderer on Mar 08 '08
I'd just stick with the town on the camel for emphasis. No need to put one on the turban too.

Iels on Mar 09 '08
I like what you've done to it, it's really improved!
maybe different shirt colours might be nice?! |
to iels: also want a black shirt, dark grey, yellow and an orange one.
any other suggestions? |
Nicte Kono on Mar 10 '08
I like the idea, but the man need more work...
yeah Nicte Kono, you're right... the man is still a bit flat
without the detail i gave the camel... good point. any other suggestions? |
mouse0nfire on Mar 10 '08
Nice idea! I would say more line detail on the man and also the came hooves. Have you thought about adding colour?
mouseonfire:
at first i wanted to use only black and white, but i added some greys to get the shadows better. i think i like it better when it's only greys, wich works very good on different tee colors i guess... |
Prexis on Mar 10 '08
i never really like big shadows like that on t-shirt designs, but the camel is excellent

made the shadow a lot lighter....
so the camel and his driver become more important. what do you think of the different shirt colors? |
peddlerofdeath on Mar 10 '08
Good call on the shadow. I'm liking the color options, esp. yellow and black.
squidspawn on Mar 10 '08
really amazing.
the firey colors work great (orange and the yellows) the only little problem is the butt looks a bit big (then again im not a camel ass observer) but it just looks a little off great work though. critique mine? www.threadless.com/critique/15137/Mikey_and_the_Monster |
yep, you're right... think something went wrong with the layers... thanx.
i'll fix it...... |
greenmeansgo on Mar 10 '08
i like it!
the lighter shadow definetly works better, and the overall sahding is really good, have you tried different colors though? i know you want to go for a somewhat monochromatic style, but what about earthly/warm colors? like all oranges/browns, maybe a sepia? maybe just give a quick try, throw a sepia filter over all of it and if it looks like shit just ditch my suggestion and sub this mofo
for the different tee colors i used a custom shade color as well..
so the orange shirt, got a dark orange shadow, and the green shirt, got a darker green shadow.. etc etc... don't know if this works for threadless.. we'll see |
againstbound:
i'll experiment a bit... thanx. |
greenmeansgo on Mar 10 '08
wow it really came far from the first one! I like it a lot! and i think the green, orange and black are the best colors for the tee.
mind critiquing mine? http://www.threadless.com/critique/16648/iPatch |
i think it works great if the greys are transformed for each shirtcolor to that particular shirtcolor range... (ie. orange shirt gets it own darker orange shadow)
organicly on Mar 10 '08
the really dark grey/black is too dark, it makes the poor camel's butt look even bigger, poor camel!
haha, never thought that i would receive comments about a camels ass :-)

the camel got his tail back :-) and fixed the shadows.
an orange and green shirt color works also very well shadows are specific for its tee color by the way hope you like these too, let me know.... |

looks really good on yellow, and i think it translates the desert feel bettter, wouldnt mind taking a look at the orange version

Wow, I like this! One small thing though, the guy's foot might stand out a little too much, you might want to make it lighter.

check out my design if you get the chance.
