well, given your skillsi know this will come out great illustration-wise, thought i dont know if the concept would get through easily by just looking at it, what about the chick actually coming out from the egg's chest with everyone's ecpressions filled with horror



and maybe a little characterization on each egg though i'm not sure about that last one, personally i'm much more of a fan of Giger than aliens

I wanna keep it simple. Just inking it now. Back soon!

No! It was a good suggestion. I thought of it myself, but I wanted the whole chick. Actual hatching is a bit gross!

loving it so far. i'm assuming you're going to go crazy with the colors/patterns on the Easter eggs?

It wasn;t actually the plany, LBB. That's something I may explore, though. That changes the concept a bit then - and makes it very seasonal.

Working much better now. I don't think everyone will get the Alien reference, but even withou the reference the concept works and is funny. Love it and depending on color would consider buying it.

this is purely a suggestion but... maybe change just the color of the egg mouthes to the same color as the egg outline.



only reason being is that when i first opened your blog that's what i saw as something not being right to me. that way all of the eyes would still match.

I agree with Steve about the egg face colours, and it might be an idea to change the hatchlings eye coulour as well. That way thereīs one less colour in your palette.

I assume limiting ink colours in general improves chances of getting a print? Only if itīs not affecting the design, that is, of course. (ignore wonky english in this crit)

I tried the eyes, and the chicks eyes need to be dark grey or black or it looks wrong.



I've done Steve's suggestion of changing the mouth colour and I think it looks good. This way, all of the 'characters' eyes are symbiotic. Will post it in a bit.

It's a wee bit too monochromatic for me right now — nudging the egg color from a pale yellow to more of a creamy white would really look nice IMO.

I've given the eggs a more fleshy colou. Now to think of a name...

wow.. this color is a lot better! A name could be "murder chick" or something? it looks like all the other eggs are scared because the chick killed on of the eggs.

Obviously it does have a bum, but, it's not a huge round thing like littlem's.

Par example.

I have to change the title... because people who get the Alien reference (or even the concept of a parasite) gets it right away and don't need the title - and anyone who doesn't, just gets confused by the title.



I think it may be called 'Spring Break'.

I see what you're getting at - I think the shape looks alright for the position he's in. He's meant to have a tail feather point. It's a it stylised. Erm. I'm not sure it it's worthwhile getting the paintbrush tool out again.

Don't think of it like he's missing an ass - think of it like hes got a pronounced tailfeather

It's fine the way it is.. Its just something I saw, and wanted to point out just in case. entirely up to you and how much more work you want to put into it. otherwise, its good to go, or rather, even as is, it is still good to go, and I like the title "Spring Break".

When I first saw it, I didn't get that the eggs were scared. They looked more evil than anything.

Yeah - I know what you mean, Moss. there's a real skill to conveying subtle expression changes and this is the best I could get it with 2 black eyes and an open mouth.



If you or anyone else can demostrate how to do it better, I would be genuinely grateful. I thought about asking Jublin or stickymike to do the faces - but I'm happy with how mine turned out. Like I say - suggestions to tweak the expressions would be ery useful. Ta!

They looked more evil when their mouths were filled with black and the teeth were more prominent.

I thought about cartoon sweat bead flying off to demostrate that they are anxious, but I thought that was overkill.

what if one of them or a couple of them were crying? a little tear drop or two could go a long way in saying that they were scared and upset. no other color availble I know.. how about maybe using the greenish yellow and the white as a highlight?

and i do believe tears are in order :P, but like daniel said, don't make it blue, just make it look wet using darker shades and highlights.



as for a name (if you don't have one yet)

spring break is pretty good

i really like parasite though.

maybe you could put an explination in the picture or the comment, most people don't read the title anyway.

maybe some little eyebrows would help the evil/scared differentiation? i don't think you need to do anything over the top, but subtle cues never hurt.



like the new colors, btw. this design makes me smile :)

yes it does. agree that the left one looks a little funny with the tear drop. I would say if he is going to be crying as well, you might have to change the mouth expression to more of a frown.. the one second in from the right.. is he winking? : )



anyway, I think another frowned chick would be nice to balance it off anyway, but you might not want the one on the far left to be the one frowning because it would be too symmetrical, so maybe the one next to him could be frowning..



but the tear drops do help to get the right emotion across, for sure.

So do you think I only need the tear on the cracking dude? Or a different egg?

brb. I'm not gonna change the expressions anymore. I might be all day fine tuning it.

the one on the far left looks like a domo-kun! no wonder it looks evil-ish. i still think eyebrows might be a 2-minute fix, but i would say that the key thing is that the leftmost one be clearly crying instead of, um, biting? people will use that one to read the tone of the eggs' expressions, so if that one is obviously fearful i think everything else falls into place.



THAT SAID, i don't mind the ambiguity myself. are they terrified? are they going to eat the chick to avenge the death of their bro? etc. just riffing to help resolve the identified potential problem and to take a break from the subpage i've got a mental block on.
