Very strange, funny, engaging idea. Emotively, the polar opposite of "the mollusks we wear" you now have in critique. "Moon walk" for a title?
Incredible gestures, great draftsmanship, the colors are terrific, love the fade out, and it looks great on the shirt.
OK, here comes the "but". I have 4 knit picks and a major dislike. The white between the hoses and his back pack is not right. The hose on the front pack doesn't match the hoses on the back, (needs a bit of color). One alien has white antennas, I think they should be green like the other alien. There's teeny-tiny breaks in the cast shadow.
The major problem, to me, is the twinkle stars, (especially the big one in the center). First, they're all the same. Second, they look like the stars you might see over a Disney castle or the gleam on the teeth of a toothpaste model. Meaning, I don't think they jibe with the rest of the drawing style. Just my opinion.
Anyway, I hit submit, and look forward to five-ing this. Cheers!
yep...good catch quister--I'll revisit the stars and see if there's a better solution...maybe some kind of futuristic disco ball. Thanks all for comments and support.
One more minor MINOR tweek. The alien on the left's right foot (his right) has one of the toes getting covered by the shadow in back of it. Easy enough to fix, but I know that sometimes those little things get missed after you stare at a design for so long.
The larger front is definitely good. One of the things that would keep me from buying this shirt, however, is the color. I'd try out some different color combos and shirt colors.
Fantastic! Love the clouds, planets and building additions. You rock when it comes to detail. The stars look much better smaller and they're not as much "wishing" stars, now that you've added more to the background.
Big illo is best, the design becomes one with the shirt, (Yoda), rather than looking like an iron-on. I don't think the back does anything add to the cost.
Speaking of which, have you ever wondered how many back/front shirts have been printed on threadless. I'd love to get a count, I haven't seen one in the catalogue of late. It has to cost more, another couple of passes, labor, time, ink, it all adds up. I know it's popular here, but how popular is it with threadless?
I've also noticed that a lot of printed tees that have scored relatively low, usually have a minimum amount of colors. Could be an extra-special, double-secret, criteria known only to threadless management and the print Gods. =/
Anyway, I'm hitting submit now and 5 later. Cheers!
it's really interesting to look over the history of this design. It started as just a sort of cute funny image, but you've really developed it into a beautiful and amazing shirt design. I look forward to $5-ing this and eventually owning the shirt!
Not down with the phonograph. I was in a different (alien) space and you've dragged me back to earth :(
Looks fantastic though, I'll high 5've anyway.
Keep the olive shirt as an option, colors were more in harmony and green is for alien. Cheers and good luck, you certainly deserve, and are way overdue to get printed.
I dig this a lot, and I could go blue or green for garment. I have to say, I don't like the fact that their shadows are stroked. I think it'd be much cooler/more subtle if it wasn't stroked and was just solid or faded into the shirt color.
I also agree with quister re: the phonograph. I think it's cooler without it and leaves it to your imagination. As it is now I think it looks like an after thought.
