The mask we wear can become intimately close at our embrace.

not sure yet...any ideas--I was thinking of keeping the sketch feel for this one.

Try some different colors on the blue line drawing, but the more I look at it, the more perfect it is to me. It's like something I've been wanting to say, but couldn't figure out how to say it, and someone ended up saying it, and said it very well, at that.

And I also happen to LOVE squid related artwork, I dunno why, I just think they are beautiful creatures.

Wow. I'm a nerd.

BVanTango--

Glad you could relate. Squids rock. They're really fun to draw.

I was thinking maybe tying in an underwater scene with an everyday busstop /coffeeshop feel...

i agree the squid is awesome! if you want it to stand out more, then you should change the color of the guy, the blue blends them both together and i dont think the drawing gets the credit it deserves.. i really like how the hair is floating up if you do go underwater with it.. but definitely change up that blue..

my design is up for voting!

Yeah it's probably just us, but I'm feelin' a Cthulhu vibe too... and I like it. I figure if Edgar can get a shirt printed, Lovecraft can to!

Yeah, very Lovecraftian! The sketchy feel is good, too. But I might mention that squid are not mollusks (so much for your pun) -- that would be clams.

Keter-

Molluscs range from minute snails and clams (micromollusks) to large organisms such as squid, cuttlefish and octopus, which are among the most neurologically-advanced invertebrates[2].

Thanks for the comment --never hurts to double check on the specifics.

Lady Hamilton (in drag) with pet. =)

The drawing is well modeled. The man's expression and gesture convey calm acceptance, (despite a slimy alien on his head), as in destiny or karma. It's an intriguing and provocative narrative.

Your opening comment reminded me of a passage;

"Sometimes people carry to such perfection the mask they have assumed that in due course they actually become the person they seem." W. Somerset Maugham, The Moon and Sixpence

It's a complex story, embracing one's simulated semblance, and I think it will be difficult to convey. However, shape shifting has been a recurring theme since the beginning of time and is still popular today, (Zeus, Loki, frog prince, vampires, transformers, Mystique). So I think your idea will be engaging, at the least, on that level. Even if the viewer doesn't get the exact meaning, they will still comprehend the idea of transformation. That said, I think if you were to blend the area where the octopus and the man's face meet, right now the delineation of the two is distinct, the morphing would be more apparent. I say this because there's a chance that viewers might mistakenly think that the octopus is merely resting on his head rather than merging with him.

On another note, after seeing the octopus and reading your comment, I immediately thought of the mimic octopus (I read/watch a lot of science, discovery stuff). So, thinking this was an omen, I wikied it for you ;)

"The mimic octopus is able to copy the physical likeness and movement of more than fifteen different species, including sea snakes, lionfish, flatfish, brittle stars, giant crabs, sea shells, stingrays, jellyfish, sea anemones, and mantis shrimp. It accomplishes this by contorting its body and arms, and changing color."

Pretty strange that there's a for-real octopus that shape shifts, wouldn't you say? (Twilight zone music in the background). Cheers!

Still keeps with the theme and meaning I wanted--you just explained it wonderfully. Thanks quister.

This is sweet -- I think keeping the sketch feel is a good call. Maybe some tone on tone? dark line work and muted colors on a shirt in the same color family???

do something like this is traditional media and just have it finished as a bitmap process or something, i feel like i lose a lot of my normal style converting to under 8 colors, looking at your sketch makes me think you do as well

really cool

Ellsswhere--

Your stuff is killer...I've think I will try just using gritty pencil linework and see what comes out.
