I've added to the idea I was working on previously. Yeah, there's a lot going on - but the 80s was a decade of indulgence, decadence and greed. Less is definitely not more, here. I've tried to account for most tastes. We have a tennis player throwing some shapes – a new romantic singing about being in love on a keytar, and a power dressing woman on a space hopper.

Here's the previous crit. Thoughts appreciated.

PS: This is still only a rough outline - not cleaned or vectored, and line sizes still a bit out.

The guy with the keytar needs bigger Aquanetted hair.

And speaking of big hair, you could throw in a big haired metal head in tight, tight, nut-pinching pants with those leather straps with the riveted holes in them wrapped around his leg, and a net shirt.

I'm sure there are probably a few more eighties stereotypes that could be dredged up and you could expand it to a wrap-around panel.

There is, I know. But I wanted to stop there. I've given myself enough work as it is.

Fair enough!

The girl on the moon bounce ball is having some anatomial issues in her legs and arms. The foreshortening on her right leg is odd and her arms are quite skinny. Miami Vice dude could probably be a touch bigger.

*anatomical

Well crap, now you're gonna beat my idea. Can't wait to see the next version.

Maija - you're spot on with those two observations - I'm already aware of the things you mention. I have a lot of resizing and painting to to - I just wanted to put this up in the crit. Its a pain in the arse to work with because its about a metre wide on photoshop - and I don't want to shrink it until I can vector it.

do you use references for the poses in your drawings? I was asking because they alway look so good, like you have a bunch of models working for you or something.
fatheed
   fatheed on Mar 22 '07
Yeah - I often reference found and stock images. Just so I can get it as anatomically correct as possible. The clothing I have to add myself. Sometimes I add/change an arm or a head from another pic to get the pose/look I want - all quite crudely done in Photoshop then I sketch it/ink it, and the rest is history. And I live with a bunch of models in a costume department.

Haha. Thanks. I might now adandon this one. I needed to raise my game, so a bit so I started again for this comp with a blank canvas and this is what I got so far

Takin' It Back To 82'

I may still complete this one if I have time, but I've kinda lost interest in it for the time being :)

I meant abandon. But seeing as people kinda like this one, I might not. I have a lot of work to do for next week though :(

Definitely color that bad boy, but it's looking good so far. Somebody needs a "flock of seagulls" haircut. The guy with the keytar is a prime candidate.
