I like the idea, but it could be executed better... maybe just the fish with his 'tentacles' looking at a book with a picture of a jellyfish, or looking at a group of jellyfish, or trying to blend in with a group of jellyfish. Or maybe even instead of a fish, a jar of jelly with extra 'tentacles.' I don't know, just throwing some ideas out there.
I think its funny and cute. I want to see it on a template though. I wouldn't get it without the magazine.... keep the idea and tweak the placement. Maybe there should be a window in the background (no walls or ceiling) that shows pink jellyfish outside. It makes me wonder why he wants to be a jellyfish - nitpicky but I'd like a different font, and the word on the jelly is a different color than everything else... i'd make it the same as the jelly or black or something.
I think maybe ditching the marker, box, and magazine and putting it in a group of jellyfish may be a good idea...then it may be confusing where the tentacles came from... the window idea might be good to... hmm so many choices
The "tentacles" on him look makeshift enough that we'll know where they came from. Ditch everything else in the design and add the school of jellyfish, and have him trying to blend in.
And from now on, draw your words. That font looks very out of place.
Also, I put this into inkscape now and completely started over because the whole photoshop thing wasn't working, so I had to redo everything except the sketch!
I'm guessing that the jar has jelly in it. When I first looked I thought it was glue to paste on the strings but then the strings are taped on. If it is a jelly jar maybe put a few strawberries or grapes on the label. If he's supposed to spread the jelly over himself I think you might put some jelly on his body, as if he's already started, to help the viewer understand what he's doing.
The right fin's tip should be on the front of the jar, I can't reason in my mind how it's possible to hold it the way he is now, fins don't bend backwards.
Overall, the drawing is somewhat awkward. The lines are somewhere between uneven/shaky/bumpy and smooth/even, having the same weight. Shaky and bumpy is cool and smooth and even is cool but together they seem made by chance rather than choice. Hard to explain. Visit the illustrators sites below. Notice their lines and how they are consistent, I hope it helps to explain what I mean.
Maybe you should first sketch your drawing, don't worry about the erasing marks and smears, then trace over it to get a more fluid or purposeful line before you scan it. (keep a piece of paper under your hand so you don't smear as you did on the jelly fish, smudges are hard to clean up) You might experiment with different pen points or pencil weights to see what you like most or what your most comfortable with.
I'm going to stop here because I have no idea what program/s you're familiar with. It looks like you're drawing and then scanning into a program but I could be wrong and wind up being no help at all. I'll check back.
Sorry- been busy and haven't looked here in a while...
I fixed the fin, drew some grapes on the jar..... tried to draw jelly on the fish, ended up looking like crap. Also wondering what I should do with top right, or if I should just get rid of it.
How can I improve the Jelly jar, box, and magazine? They look messed up when taken from my sketch.
