If anyone has any types of coffee they would want to see added to the shirt just tell me and I'll try adding it.

Also, which one does everyone like more? white or brown?

i'd prefer the brown one.
i think the type should flow a little more like steam does...its a bit too straight and doesnt symbolize the smoothness and enjoyment of coffee so much imho

akraph makes a good point. Maybe if you took a few flavor names and curved them up so they looked like steam coming out of the cup it would be more interesting. A lighter brown on the brown shirt would have the flavor names looking like aromas. Make the cup shape out of the type, have the names spilling out of the textured burlap bag the beans come in. I don't know, something to add a bit more interest to it.

If you stick with what you've got, brown is the color that conveys coffee, so I would go with the brown shirt. Try some cream and lighter brown colors to give the type some variety. Is there type faces that lend themselves to the types of coffees? Condensed deep brown type for expresso, a fuller font with a medium to light brown gradient for cappuccino, black grunge type for Turkish or drip coffee? It's your first entry, go for it, make mistakes, try new things, get crazy.

Much better. You might lower the type a bit and raise the cup so that "drip" is starting to disappear in the coffee. I think it wold be a little more interesting. I also think you need to give the cup a little TLC. The grey from the brim layer is showing through the white. The rim and handle are a bit choppy and maybe a different color cup would give the whole design a little more variety and interest. I don't know what your experience is with illustrator but I would tell you to find a good cup reference on google images and trace it. It's OK to trace off of a reference, almost everybody does. If you're into drawing it, do it on paper first and work out the perspective and then scan it and use that as a reference.

Take a look at the cup at the the site below, make sure to look at the first version, V1, to see a very rad cup color.

Could you hand draw this ? Whould make it so much more intresting than just a vectorised coffe cup with lame typography. Don't understand me wrong, I think the idea is really nice :)

I think the black cup looked better, but the whole design is a little bland. I think it needs work. some sort of swirl or rings in the coffee to make it look like liquid, and maybe the text should be vertical and sort of swirling around with steam . I see that you're trying to make the text look like a steam rising from the cup, but the horizontal text just doesn't work.

I saw a mistake! it's 'café con leche', not 'café con lenche'. Apart from that detail, I really like it :D

I agree with gigguli. The concept itself isn't bad, but I think if you drew all of it, it would work out much better.

Also, the white cup clashes with the brown motif. Try making the cup light beige or something

I've tried starting the drip right inside the cup but I didn't find it looked very good.
I'll definitely try adding shadows and post it up.

i think it would be great if you played with the words in the design more it could become a lot more interesting

the cup needs a lot of work.

cool (I LOVE coffee!!)...but maybe you could do something else with the text? i haven't read over all these comments people have already made, but my thought is to make it look like aroma/steam with the words somehow swirled into the steam...you'd have to hand draw that probably or whatever program you are using...and maybe work some patterns (swirls) into the aroma?? just a thought...

oh, and i like the black in the mug in v1

I think if you work on the play of your typography this will be much more succesful. It's a decent concept and all, but I'd love to see you really push that type like heyheyitsme said.

i like V1 on white. Design with coffee beans is definitly better (anyway I like it more)

Okay I realized in my last version the shadow looked too big, so I fixed that and made the text a bit more transparent, and I tried making ripples in the coffee. I hope you like it!

I like the darker bigger shadow you had on here before. Something about that font i don't like i dunno any otherwas to treat that type though

I think the wavey text is good, but i still think that adding more text, like as much as you can think of. everything you and everyone else think of coffee will really give if more complexity.
I agree too the black is too dark, a darker brown would work.

okay I saw the triangle of gray on the cup that i hadn't seen before, so ill make that white.

The steam is cool, but how would this be printed? Can simulated process do that?

I would drop the steam and the gradient shadow, version 4 was better IMO

the steam definately adds to it. Keep it, for sure.

The cup is better in this version, but still looks a little flat. Try making the java inside the cup look more like a liquid and less like the back of the shirt.

may be you can try to make cup not so full of coffee. What if we can see little bit of cup inside. And may be some marks of coffee outside (like somebody drank cofee from that cup already)??

Nice going on the ripples, as i mentioned before, and i sorta like the steam.
Now, I´d Buy it, but You´re forgettin the best coffee in the world the Colombian coffee, so you put it first and I´d buy it

I'll try making the cup less full, and I'll try adding more shadows. I'll also see what it looks like with a coaster. I'll see if I can add Colombian! =)

I like the design but here is my input:

1) Maybe put more detail on the cup, like a grey shadow.

2) I really don't like the font, and maybe making the text a little bit less visible on a lighter shade?

looks great now ! Love the steam and the swirl in the coffee. It does not need a saucer under it...it might look like tea then. And it doesn't need anymore shadowing. The words look great billowing up with the steam. Go ahead and sub it.

Okay I need some input. Do I sub now or wait? I tried adding a coaster under the cup and I really don't like it, I find it just adds too much. I also find it looks weird with the cup less full. I guess the last thing I could do would be to put a shadow on the cup or handle, but I really like it the way it is. If I sub now do I have a good change of printing?

Drip brew (or filter coffee) is a type of coffee, and I chose to put it in because is was a smaller name and I thought it would look good at the bottom.

personally I don't think it is going to be a while until someone tops or even gets close tot he Glaser inspired "I Love Coffee" shirt. Your illustration and use of text has come a long way since v1 but I am still not inspired. I am only one person though, so good luck!

Okay, I think I'm going to submit it! I really like it the way it is so hopefully I'll get a good score. If I don't do well, I'll continue to work on it and change the font since some people don't seem to like it as much. I hope all of you will give me $5! =D

i'm afraid i can't be of use on this one...i've never drank any type of coffee so i don't get this shirt as well as the rest of the crowd.

on the design side, i'm not sold on that liquid part...it almost looks too realistic, haha.

I had thought at one point to add energy drinks and Coke to the list since they're caffeinated and it would be good for people who don't like coffee as much , but I figured all the other drinks I added tasted like coffee so it might look weird.

haha it just looks kinda funny since the cup is really basic and 2d, but then the coffee itself is all full of texture and multi colored...

and now that i'm examining it a bit more...where did those ripples come from?

Well the ripples were put in to give the coffee some depth and texture, otherwise before it was just a plain surface. I guess you could say the coffee was just poured.

I had submitted version 10 and it didn't do well, so I'm continuing to work on it and take people's advice!

Would a saucer and spoon add any thing?.....newspaper or crossword puzzle or some sort of reading material and a pen near by...just to make it more authentic so people can more easily relate to it

Oh sorry I didn't respond. I have tried a saucer before and it didn't really look good in my opinion, and I think a spoon or pen would just add too much to the design. Thanks though! =)

I understand that. I just think there is some thing missing. What about a take away coffee in a carton next to the cup. Even some change (money) nearby

Okay well I submitted it yesturday, so once its done scoring I'll see if the score is good and if I need to change it some more.

Any ideas for new changes? I've decided to keep working on this design.

i would keep it simple - perhaps get rid of the steam and keep "type as image" see what you think then..
