This is a design for kickin it old school contest. I call it hip hop hibernation. I swapped out the coma in the movie for a bear hibernating.



I tried to switch up my style on this one.

Tell me what you think.

nice teh gold chain looks a little weird but maybe thats what you were going for

awesome work, that gold chain is some major "bling!"

nice revision on the gold chain and excellent texture on the fur

maybe a highlight on the bear's eyes.

They're solid black and it seems there

should be a point of light on each eye.

Awesome illustration, Ed! Good imporvement to the chain, but for me, it still looks plaitted, rather than chained. It might be worth removing what you have there and reworking it to look more like links. Its nice as it is, and I understand it, but I can see it coming back to bite you on the arse in the comments section when you sub it :)

this is lookin' pretty good...but personal taste says MIX UP THE SHIRT COLOUR!



who says it NEEDS to be a brown...get "edgy" and do something drastic...your line work can be ANY colour as with teh shirt (as long as they compliment)...khaki is just bleh.

fatheed - I was going for the 80's b-boy rope chain look, like Run-DMC or early day LL Cool J, 80's b-boy wouldn't wear a link necklace. I can see it becoming a comment point as a sub, I'm not sure younger voter know what a rope chain is, but he's a b-bear and a b-bear has to have a rope chain.

This is great. One of the teeth with a gold cap would be subtle and a nice addition. I think it's ready to enter.

holy crap! i love this! this is seriously the best example of progress in a critique i've seen yet. i think the changes have taken it from a 4/5 to a $5 for me. i think i love all the revised color palettes but kiwi is the best.

Hey Ed. Glad you subbed this - this is a really strong design. I checked out Run DMC and found the 'rope chain', so I take back my suggestion about the links! Now I have to try to come up with a good 80s design!

You should make the gold chain into links of honeycombs. Awesome work.

Very cool drawing, i like it alot. Looks kinda like a woodcut. The only criticism that i would give is about the gold chain round the bears neck. I firstly thought it was a flower lay (sp) round his neck rather than a gold chain. Something you may what to consider perhaps?

I normally don't like bringing animals into man's world, but this is a beautiful drawing. It's subtle, being that hip-hop can portray a tough image.
