i actually sort of think the centre should be bigger and around the neckline so that all the segments of the lemon go upwards towards the neck. but im no expert i just buy the tees i dont make them lol

Nice design, very graphic, simple. You'll need to belt print to get it on the sleeves so you might as well do a design for the back and get your money's worth. White on yellow would work but you won't be able to go beyond the hem of the sleeve so you might have to condense the design to get a continuous lemon edge onto the shirt. I'd keep the center of the design above the breast and off center like you have it, but a bit more centered. I would also make the curves rounder where the pulp meets the rind. The second spoke on the right has none at all, needs to be fixed A bit of shade/highlight on the seeds would add some depth and I'd make the seeds a bit pear shaped (like real seeds) and vary the size so it's not so predictable. More seeds might make it more interesting. Too bad you couldn't make the back a lime (not on a yellow shirt). You may be able to make it the back of the lemon that's cut in the front but I have no idea how you might do that. Either way I would show a back design along with the front on your next submit. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

P.S. Don't bother asking if anyone else has some advice, no one can read it until they open your design and if they do open it, they'll either comment or not. Just interact with the people that do comment and the design will move back to the front page and new viewers will drop in, or not. Also, a lot of people just push "needs work" without ever making a comment, it doesn't help, but you better get used to it. It's a shirt-eat-shirt world out there.

hey thanks for all your nice comments . i changed the seeds to make them more seed shaped and added some shading and highlights but i think i can do better in that section. i also added a few and changed the size of 2. Im not very happy with how the lower left turned out. I rounded the lemon segments and centred the middle to be higher on the shoulder. Obviously another change is the back. it is just a reflection of the front as if the teeshirt is a slice of lemon. I did endeavour to make the back like the back half of a lemon halve but the green stalk thing resembled the behind of a cat... I think thats all i did...

Seeds look better. The big ones should probably be smaller. Cut open a lemon and look at the seed to pulp ratio, also look at where nature has them arranged. I think they're closer to the center but I don't know for sure. You're over the neck hem and right arm hem with the white ink. You're going to have to move the center lower to get the spoke going across the shirt in one piece. Rotate the graphic counter clockwise so you don't end up with a straight line going across the shirt. I would also reduce it a bit so that more of the graphic sweeps up through the left shoulder. And lastly, make the tee bigger on the page, size down the colored eggs, reduce the type, pick a less attention-grabbing font, and calm down the background color, it distracts from the main attraction... your design. I see you got a need's work check without a comment, ha ha, they never stop. I won't check anything for now.

mr moo makes a good point. Threadless members are ruthless when it comes to copy and paste. It's the lazy person's solution to filling up space. However, I think it's the natural thing to do with this design. I'd put it up and see what happens.

considering how my first attempt at the back of a lemon turned out i dont think i will go back and try again so i cant think of much to do to change the back other than rearrange and resize the seeds...?

Just get the white off the hems etc., and resubmit. If it's a problem there will probably be suggestions that you might be able to use.

Unparalleled, with the drop of juice i think thats a good idea and i have room for another colour or two but where would it go? running down the flesh, along the peel or just dripping off the bottom? if on rind im not too sure because i continued the dark yellow on but in a real lemon the rind is only quite thin. it would have to have a background which i think would be a bit much.. maybe ill just put it running down the flesh. what do you think?

I think the drop would look really good running down the flesh of the lemon.

belt printing will make it difficult to line those colors up according the the packet from threadless... however, i like this design, but there needs to be a deeper connection between the title and the image to make it have that "wow" factor

no matter what shirt-color you choose i think it will be a to large area of print.. work with that!

I think the second seed from the left might shift in belt printing and land onto the shoulder seem. So I'd rotate the lemon counterclockwise to leave room for error. You'll need to drop the center a bit so the spoke doesn't cross the collar seam but it shouldn't hurt the design. Actually you should do that anyway just to once again, leave room for belt print shifting. I love funkyswimchick's juice drops suggestion. That would add more depth and detail to make the design even better. I believe this design's allure (evident in the positive feed back you're getting) is its graphic simplicity and unusual cropping/shirt placement. However, if you were to find the wow factor and title connection Jimmiiko referred to, you could put this over the top. Think about facial reactions to a sour taste. Squeezed eyes, pinched nose, puckered lips. Maybe there's some way you can get the seeds or drops to reflect that experience. Food for thought.

this shirt is coming along nicely. I personally wouldnt wear it because it isnt my style but i still like it a lot. The drip running down the bottom side of the lemon would look great in my opinion. I also disagree with againstbound, not because I don't think he's a good artist (he makes some really good stuff) but I think threadless is based on lots of different styles and creativity so i think this has just as much chance as the next guy to win. Keep going with this ^_^

Okay. I wasn't clear. What I guess I meant was: Okay, so the peel on your lemon is the shirt, right? That bright yellow shirt corner. Well I thinlk actually defining the peel with another line would be an improvement. Maybe surrounding the pith about an inch away a thin pale yellow line. Oh, a picture would so be worth a thousand words here.

yes i suppose so but then it would be white, yellow, pale yellow, yellow and so it would seem as if the background is the darker yellow which i dont really want, it would sort of ruin the simplicity of this design but then again it might not.. unless i dont get what you mean still. that was my initial thought too about what you meant but you see the yellow is an ongoing peel and there is no defined end of the lemon. ill do two versions to see and then ill get feedback about the positioning of the drop before anything else

i emailed threadless and they say it wont be able to be printed the way it is now..

The margin of error is quite high, so none of my colors would line up properly. It must either not go on the sleeves or have no colors touching. Even with colors not touching, it is unlikely they could print something that large.

I thought that might be the case. if it doesnt go on the sleeves how could this be placed? All suggestions appreciated because i need help for this to work!

Aha! no longer a belt print ! (solves printing issues) yes it is smaller to avoid putting it on the sleeves and tee colour has changed to the golden yellow. I kept the drip because everyone seemed to like it, so it is now a juicy lemon with inverted gravity... enjoy and please let me know of your opinions, they shape this design, not me.

i have issues with the seeds in the corner. i crammed them in which i now see is a mistake. But perhaps not...?

It might still be a belt print if the print goes off the edge of the T.



But it might be able to be belt printed if you change it to spot colors of transparencies of white, so there is only one ink.

You would have to check with threadless, and I am just guessing here.

But I think if you make it monotone, so it can be printed using only one ink, it may be able to be belt printed, as there is no second ink to cause registration problems.

No, don't make it monotone. It needs the different colors.. i'd go with the suggestion of the liquid dripping down the side.

One thing: It looks...shorter than it should. I mean, I know that lemons arent actually perfect circles, but visually, it look slike it should be a tad taller(likely an optical illusion cause by the placment)



Other than that, I still totally dig this.

If you wanted to try monotone, you would need to use a pallet of just the colors in a gradient from the yellow of the shirt and white. Maybe make a gradient in Photoshop using white and yellow, then use the eyedropper to pick out tones.



That way it can be printed using only white ink (Maybe)

Ok, i have gotten an email back from threadless, and shades of a single color has the same registration issues as multiple colors on a belt printer. But belt printer is not needed to print to the bottom of a shirt.



"Actually multiple colors can be used in a belt print but it is recommended that tight registration is not required as it's not easy to line up the screens. Printing shades of a color happens the same as multiple colors.



A belt printer is not required to print to or off the bottom of a tee."

oh cool that clears up all that mumbo jumbo about belting/non belting

I know you're in the home stretch and you've earned a lot of submits, overcame the belt printing debacle and are probably not looking forward to another suggestion. But here it goes anyway. Actually there's two suggestions. The first is easy; vary the seed proximity to the center a bit, it's too symmetrical right now and a little variety will add interest. Second, try rotating clockwise and moving the drops just below the second spoke from the right. I know you're worried about the space that it will leave on top but if you thought of this as a canvas, all the detail at the bottom should balance that off and make for a dramatic composition. It's only a suggestion and it should never appear here if you don't like how it looks on the computer. But who knows, it might work.



Anyway, nice work, way to hang tough, you've earned my praise and my vote.

You can't really have drops going up! To fill the space have a small slice of lime poking out, it will also add a little more colour. I think you need to add a bit more character to the lemon, it looks anonymous .Have you though about having the drops coming down the face of the lemon

As much as it would be helpful to read all comments I believe it would be far to time consuming to read more than a handful of comments for every work I look at. You may have your particular way of proceeding which may differ from mine or Michelle. I like the look of the drips, but their position makes it look like they're coming from the outside of the peel, not the from the inside of the lemon. I am uncertain about how you would fix that.



I love the seeds and the drips, but they are shadowed, while the rest of the lemon is unflawed. This rings odd to me. Perhaps try putting some thin lines running through all of the slices to add some texture? Only a few would be necessary.

Lemon or lime? Both! And I would add orange and pink grapefruit. Lemon shirt, big and on top, the others smaller and at the bottom of your sub page. Offers shirt color choices, a must in today's "individual economy", (cell phone, MP3, computer color choices). Same amount of screens/labor, just color ink change and ultimately, threadless will decide the shirt color anyway.



Pulp texture? Yes! Adds variety of line and shape, more interesting/pleasing to the eye.



Up drips/side drips? Up drips! Makes for a better composition and they're unexpected (defying gravity), adding interest and playfulness to the design.



Title? (I know you didn't ask for this but you did say, "anything else" goes), "Summer". More emotional, connects with positive associations; vacation, more light, less clothes, water sports, outdoor dining, and of course, cooling, refreshing pitchers of sangria at pool side.



Other options:

1:You've already (accidentally) submitted "Lime Time", wait it out and see how it goes. You'll find out if there's too much ink in the design to be printed and if it's accepted you'll see how it scores.



2:Whenever a piece of work starts to wear me down I put it aside and revisit it when I'm less frustrated and have regained my initial enthusiasm/interest for it. If I don't, it becomes a negative force and drains energy from my being. The best course of action is to start something else. There's no deadline here, do what's best for you.

orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit! just one question... what is the colour of the skin of a grapefruit? i googled it and it came up with yellow and orange, depending on the ripeness etc. but orange is for well, orange and im using gold for lemon, but i dont know what other colour to use for the tee because threadless doesnt really do an in-between colour.. OK, I'm looking at it again and I've got one other suggestion that I should have caught before, (lajlai might have thought this too). The fruit, pulp and seeds are drawn crisply and the juice is fuzzy. Redraw the juice in the same fashion and then I think you're absolutely, positively ready to go. You've got 12 submits on this V and only 7 visitors making a comment (and you know I couldn't have scored more than once), so just do it.
